Carlos Restaurant in Dortmund

We went to the pirate-themed restaurant Carlos with a large group for a birthday dinner and were completely satisfied. The salmon and vegetable skewer was delicious, as was the strawberry tiramisu. The service was friendly and attentive, even on a busy Saturday evening, and the children were well looked after. The hourly pirate show with music and special effects was particularly impressive and really created a great atmosphere. The only downside: the restaurant isn't wheelchair accessible, so it's a bit awkward with a stroller or wheelchair. Otherwise, highly recommended!

A very nice restaurant with an impressive ship in the center of the dining area. We were particularly impressed with the service, as the staff were very attentive and helpful. We ordered several appetizers and four different main courses, and we found everything delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Well, you're not supposed to argue about taste, but for my taste, the quality there doesn't justify the prices. The ambiance... yes, the idea is certainly good, but for the food? No way... If I have to use my phone's flashlight to read the menu... if the lights go out for a few minutes in the middle of my meal and I'm subjected to the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack, forcing me to interrupt my meal... no thanks. What's the point? It should be a bar instead. This concept would work in a bar, and I'd gladly give it 5 stars, but not in a restaurant. The service staff were the only highlight of the visit.

The food and drinks were excellent. As always, top-notch. The quality, taste, and service are hard to beat. The dessert was absolutely fantastic!

Spectacular atmosphere. Highly recommended. We tried many dishes and everything tasted great.

Many inattentive waiters. No proactive service; empty glasses were simply left and collected throughout the entire visit. Meanwhile, plates were cleared away even though people were still eating at the table. The price-performance ratio is somewhat unbalanced. The "show" might be a good idea, but flickering lights without anything happening isn't a "show."

Friendly service. The drinks arrived very quickly, as did the food after ordering. The bread with aioli and the potatoes were definitely delicious. The vegetable skewer was presented with a variety of different vegetables.

Absolute parking problem. Pure chaos!! The restaurant is quite large, so it's noisy and the staff are overwhelmed. The ambiance is quite nice. Unfortunately, the food is far too expensive for the amount on the plate. Unfortunately, it's not worth a second visit for me.

Great ideas for interior design

Absolutely well-deserved 5 stars! You get everything you could want from a special restaurant visit. The service staff is incredibly attentive and strives to fulfill every guest's wish. You can watch the impressive process in the open kitchen, where you can even see the chef at the grill. A highlight are the super-delicious skewers being prepared on the grill. The rissois could have used a little less batter for my taste, but they were still very flavorful. All in all, thumbs up for such a smooth operation in this restaurant.

Simply fantastic. We gave this to a friend for her birthday, and she and we were absolutely thrilled. Not just with the food, but with this ship in the middle, it's amazing... We had super friendly and helpful service 👍🏼 We will definitely be back.

We were here with six people over the weekend. This restaurant, located in a listed building, is an experience in every way! The first thing you see is a large wooden pirate ship in a very high-ceilinged room. You can sit downstairs in or next to the ship, or upstairs on the deck or in the cabin. The service is very friendly, and drinks come quickly. I recommend the pink sangria. The menu is very extensive. Even though it was very busy, the food came very quickly, whether it was shrimp skewers or steaks. Everything was delicious. The prices are on the high side, but you won't go here regularly, but it's definitely worth it. You definitely have to make a reservation!

One point because the dog is allowed in. - Tables are very small and cramped; five at a table is difficult, but it was intended for six. - Meat arrived cold at the table. - Side dishes cost extra. - Espresso was served instead of coffee. - We were immediately thrown out with a glare. - Very loud, children running around. - Very cold, had a window seat. - Of the entertainment, we only heard the sound and the lights being turned off, but didn't know what they were for. - One place card for five people. When asked, they complained and picked up a card from the floor and gave it to us. We ended up having two, which was great. We won't be coming back again.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend it. When you walk in, it's amazingly designed. The table for 6 people is way too small. They just put two chairs next to it. The food isn't good. The skewer was dry and cold. The squid was in a bowl of cheap oil. The fish just tasted of oil. I left. Instead of coffee, they brought me an espresso.

Great food...very tasty. We took the over-hour trip, and it was definitely worth it; we'll do it again, or even more. :) The ship is incredibly beautiful.

We ate there everything was almost perfect the main course was chicken and really raw but with 2000 skewers in the evening it happens once or twice and here now Zack agreed Zack new skewers without fuss everyone is satisfied it was still a perfect evening because the waiter was top

The ambiance and the food were very good. Unfortunately, the service was far too hectic and gave the impression of a mass processing operation, even though not all the tables were occupied. This feeling was further reinforced by the fact that plates and glasses were already being cleared away while we were still eating. There was a constant feeling of "quick, quick, quick" and the subliminal message that we should leave quickly. This unfortunately significantly tarnished the positive overall impression. - too bad

A really nice restaurant, something different, just this ship in the middle of the room, you can eat upstairs, downstairs and next to the ship, delicious food, friendly staff, plenty of parking, would go back and recommend it to anyone.

The food was very good... BUT drinks were carelessly placed at the edge of the table and not distributed to the guests. Dessert was ordered with a request for additional cutlery, but was then served without any... but then the real highlight came. Even though the sangria pitcher was still more than half full, and a plate of bread was still incomplete, we were very firmly asked to please go downstairs to continue drinking. When we asked if we could finish our drinks in peace, we were asked again to please vacate the table... and that after only 1.5 hours... then we were left sitting there, it was cold and loud... a real shame for a birthday. When we brought it up again when paying... thank you for the friendly reminder... we could have said no.

I've never seen such an interior design before. A restaurant with a built-in pirate ship. Great. The food and service were excellent. We won't be back there again.

Very nice restaurant, fast and courteous staff. I was there with my wife for her birthday. Funny, five other people had birthdays as well. A little recommendation: they also play various birthday songs 😉.

We were there today for my birthday. It was a great place with a great atmosphere, but unfortunately we had to wait 20 minutes for a drink. The appetizers were all very sour and over-seasoned. The skewer was excellent except for the first piece. The fish was unfortunately overcooked and difficult to chew. Unfortunately, this will be our last visit, as the menu also leaves a lot to be desired.

Very nice ambiance with the ship's building in, or rather as, the dining room. We started with bread and aioli. The bread was still warm, and the aioli had a good, but not overpowering, garlic flavor. I had the piri-piri chicken. It was juicy and tender, and the spices weren't just on the outside of the skin like with many dishes, but permeated into the meat. Not overpowering, but enough to complement the chicken flavor nicely. One small suggestion for improvement with the chicken: perhaps provide a refreshing hand towel. All in all, a very pleasant and delicious evening.

A fantastic evening from start to finish. Friendly and quick staff, always ready to help with advice and assistance. I don't think the atmosphere needs much more than exceptional. The food was fresh and delicious. Good meat, great side dishes...and lots of garlic. I'd happily return anytime.

In any case, the staff was extremely courteous and not at all intrusive. The ambiance was outstanding. The food was absolutely delicious, and the value for money was excellent. I would 100 percent recommend it to everyone; it's a must-try experience. I would give it 10 out of 10 stars.

A truly great setting, but my salmon, as well as my friend's salmon, were just as oversalted as the rosemary potatoes, and unfortunately, it was very greasy. What a pity.

Expectations were higher. As soon as you walk in, you enter a different world. The ambiance is amazing. The staff is very friendly so far. The menus are already on the table. We waited 15 minutes until someone came and took our drinks. Since we had so much time, we knew right away what we wanted to eat. Unfortunately, the food arrived separately. First, my husband's skewer of rosemary potatoes arrived, followed three minutes later by my skewer of rosemary potatoes. Another five minutes later, my skewer arrived, and then another five minutes later, my side dish of potatoes. That shouldn't have happened. The skewers tasted great. The rosemary potatoes somehow lacked rosemary, and the potatoes I had were completely oversalted. This was also the first time we left a restaurant hungry because the main course wasn't quite enough. Apart from the people bringing out the food, we hadn't seen any of the staff for quite some time. When we finally flagged someone down, we asked for the bill. That was quick. Due to the poor service, I didn't want to tip. My bill came to €54.80. I gave €55 and waited for my change. But it was in vain. The employee turned around and left. Well, that wasn't exactly good manners. It was only 20 cents. All in all, we had hoped for more.

A definite 5 stars. The restaurant is built into an old pirate ship. You can eat both inside and on deck. It has a fantastic atmosphere. Once an hour, it gets dark, and the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean plays. Add to that the sounds of wind and rain. Even if you're just sitting on wooden benches, it's very cozy. The food itself is also very good, and for the certainly expensive furnishings and ambiance, the prices are reasonable. It's not overpriced. If you want to experience something special with food, you can't miss this restaurant. They also have good vegetarian dishes.

We were there on a Saturday evening with a reservation with a large group of women. It was amazing! A very friendly welcome. Although we were familiar with a different menu from Dortmund, we found great things there too and tried everything. We had two children with us who got their food first. We thought it was very good and child-friendly. The food was consistently great except for my cousin's rice. The service was very friendly, took our criticism into account and quickly found an alternative. Amazing 👍 The atmosphere is simply fantastic. Delicious food and great service! It was really busy on our last visit, but our order still arrived at our table in only 10-15 minutes. We were so pleased again. A highlight, of course, is the music and light show in between.

Food 1/10 Service 0/10 Atmosphere 10/10 The ambiance is really cool, and we thought the special effects were fitting 👍 Unfortunately, we had to keep calling for our attention because the waiter kept forgetting about us. The food was lukewarm and took two minutes to arrive at our table. Personally, that's not a sign of quality in a fresh kitchen. Afterwards, we had to send something back because they forgot the side dish. Conclusion: You can go, but if you can, go somewhere else.

In short: Carlos in Schwerte is definitely worth a visit for its special ambiance and excellent food. Unfortunately, the service significantly spoiled our experience. Detailed review: Carlos is truly something special. The building is designed like a ship, and music like the "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme song and thunderstorm effects create a truly wonderful pirate atmosphere. For that, I give it a clear 10 out of 10. The food was also solid and delicious – a solid 8 out of 10 for me. However, the service was a bit off. Even during the main courses, it was difficult to reorder drinks – the glasses remained empty for over an hour. It was particularly disappointing that we asked for service three times to order dessert, but no one took our order. And this despite the fact that the restaurant was far from full at that point. Some dishes were cleared away, but only half of them, so the overall impression was very inattentive. Unfortunately, this only gets a 1 out of 10. Conclusion: The ambiance and food are truly enjoyable and worth the effort. If the service team consistently pays attention to all guests, Carlos could be a real highlight in Schwerte.

The location is unique. From the outside, everything looks like a "normal" restaurant. However, once you enter, you're immersed in another world. You're standing in front of a giant ship. It's truly amazing to sit up there. The hourly "shows" are also fantastic. The food is delicious, and the children's menu is beautifully presented. We were here on a Saturday. Despite plenty of parking, it was a bit difficult to find a spot. The restaurant, while completely unassuming from the outside, reveals its full ambiance the moment you step through the door. The food was good and delicious. The friendly staff made every effort to serve it as quickly as possible. The restaurant was completely booked that day. We waited 45 minutes for our food. However, the time passed relatively quickly thanks to the great location and good conversations with friends. I would definitely eat here again.

So, something special for a long time. Our son (5 years old) was very enthusiastic. My wife had fish, even though she's not a fan. And I had chicken wings. My wife really enjoyed them, and I have to say, every time I order chicken wings somewhere, I get the ones I can buy myself at Lidl or somewhere else. But not at Carlos. They looked really good and tasted really good, too. I would have loved to eat another two or three of them. The churros for dessert were amazing. I'd even say that even the Pepsi in a glass tasted better than at home ;-). Super friendly staff I personally think the atmosphere with the ship is fantastic. If I/we are in the area again, we will definitely stop by again. I would even give it another one or two stars.

The restaurant is incredibly beautiful and has a unique atmosphere. The dining area is essentially on or inside a ship that's set up within the restaurant. The lights go out every hour, and there's music and thunder, creating a special atmosphere. The food is truly delicious and of good quality. The menu generally focuses on meat and fish, but vegetarians can also find something to eat. The staff is truly super friendly, and we were served quickly, but there were a few misunderstandings when ordering. Many allergens are listed on the menu, but unfortunately not all. This made us feel uneasy because it was sometimes unclear whether certain allergens were present or whether they had been forgotten. Upon request, they were able to help us, but sometimes we had to ask the kitchen first. If the menu can be improved in this regard, it will be perfect.

Without exaggeration, the restaurant is highly recommended. Upon entering, the ambiance will make your eyes pop. The food is incredibly delicious and beautifully presented.
