Carlos Restaurant in Dortmund

An incredible restaurant worthy of a movie set...the late-night storm is well-recreated. Delicious dishes and attentive staff...a special mention to Ali, a smiling and very friendly waiter...looking forward to coming back.

Four of us were guests at Carlos on Saturday. A clean and stylish restaurant with a cool flair. A ship's body is placed in the middle of the room. where you sit. The food we ordered was delicious, fresh and warm. Well seasoned and the ingredients seemed to be of good quality. There was nothing wrong with the food, the service, the ambience and ultimately the price. Price-performance was right. The only drawback that doesn't actually work is if not everyone gets their food at the same time. That didn't work. At least with us. We've experienced better than that. Would you come back? For sure.

Pirates of the Caribbean feeling and very tasty food

Simply great atmosphere, food, drink... everything

We were given a voucher and went out to eat there for the first time. Unassuming restaurant from the outside, but as soon as you walk in you feel like you're in another world (like in the pirate movie "Hook"). Absolutely recommendable Portuguese restaurant with a fantastic pirate atmosphere and that makes you feel like you're in another time. The food is fresh & well seasoned and delicious 😋....& the service is damn friendly & helpful.... We will also go out to eat there again with the children, because there are also storms on the ship (lights go dark, noises like on a ship...)

I was there today with my wife and we are just thrilled! The service was absolutely first class from start to finish. We would especially like to thank the waiter Ali Müller – incredibly friendly, attentive and professional. His recommendation for food was spot on - we couldn't have chosen better ourselves! You could tell that he does his job with heart. Everything was perfect: the food, the atmosphere, everything! We'll definitely be back. Clear recommendation – 5 stars are almost not enough!

We were there for the first time today and were very impressed by the atmosphere. Something completely different. I had reserved for 3, but it was only set for 2. After the food was there, we asked if there were any cutlery etc. for children?! Service was very inattentive and unfriendly. Service should be trained again! Because that spoiled the whole thing a little. The food was tasty, but unfortunately there was too much salt everywhere, especially on the salmon skewer. Regarding the meat skewer (beef), I would like to mention that 25.90 for 4 pieces of meat without a side dish is very expensive. The prices are literally steep in some places. I understand that everything will be more expensive here too, but it has to be proportionate. And if the service is still so-so, then the whole thing is too expensive. But since we love Portuguese cuisine, we will try there again.

Super great restaurant. The ambience is simply wow. Very detailed with a giant ship. Plus show effects that enhance the mood even more. The staff is very friendly, humane and you get a really great feeling. You can feel that everyone loves their job and is passionate about the guests. And the food, very tasty. Pleasant portions. I had a meat skewer, the skewer made it seem more inviting than an overloaded plate. Plus a super fair price. So quite frankly, go to this restaurant it's just wow. Once again a huge thank you to the kitchen and staff for this experience.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food as I thought the decor and the whole “experience” here was what made it special. The starters were very tasty (dates OK) - especially the bread with dip was super fresh, even if it is a bit more expensive at €7, highly recommended! I had the mixed meat skewer, which was very well fried. My companions had the burger and beef skewer - also very good. As a side dish I had the potato wedges - but they weren't typical wedges but rather small, not really crispy cubes that tasted more like semi. The service was really friendly and attentive - not stressed or anything like that. But we were there relatively early and it wasn't completely full yet. Be sure to make a reservation, especially on weekends. It’s a little quieter down “in the boat”. There's more going on at the top, but you also have more of the atmosphere that many people come here for.

Today we had dinner at Carlos's with 4 people because of the pictures on the internet. The ambience is the best thing about the shop, but that doesn't take away from the food. The food was delicious, but we wouldn't be full. Very expensive for far too little food. Wouldn't go there a second time. We then drove to the golden M, 4 minutes away. Unfortunately, the great ambience doesn't outweigh the food and the price.

Highly recommended Portuguese cuisine, the ambience in the restaurant is unique with the ship in the middle. Unfortunately the service can't keep up, long waiting times until you can order, changing waiters for the same table... Still worth a visit, it was very tasty. P.S. Bring time to look for a parking space.

Great food (chicken) and great ambience

Too bad!!! We've been back for a while now and unfortunately we were disappointed! Ambience is exceptional. The food was really not good, my potato wedges were lukewarm, limp cubes soaked in fat with no taste. When we asked the service they said: that would be so right! And there wouldn't have been any complaints yet and they wouldn't be crispy?! My Piri chicken was okay but I've had better.

The two of us were in Restaurant Carlos on Sunday evening and were immediately impressed by the stylish furnishings - really tasteful and designed with great attention to detail. The atmosphere was pleasant and inviting. The meal was excellent! Everything is freshly prepared and tastes perfect. A small downside was that the side dishes were served a few minutes before the main course. But that only diminished the enjoyment minimally. As far as prices go, I don't agree with some of the previous reviews. An espresso for 2 euros is absolutely fair these days, and we generally found the price-performance ratio to be very reasonable. We felt completely at home and enjoy exactly this type of event catering. A big compliment to the team – we’ll be happy to come back!

The service was great! The food and the meat skewers were very tasty! We were lucky enough to get caught in a thunderstorm twice, great atmosphere! We'll be back! I just wished the background music was a little more "Portuguese", "Barby Girl" etc. didn't fit the mood at all 😉

The food was good, but prices have increased more here in recent years than in other restaurants. The service was friendly, but couldn't give any details about the food. Our seat was in the ship, which was pretty cool. But unfortunately they keep turning off the lights and playing loud music in the restaurant, but the "show" is nothing except a few lighting effects. That bothered us.

Food: okay - I expected something different. Service: student temp with no restaurant experience whatsoever. Atmosphere: a carpenter had put something together :-( Price: very expensive, not cheap in the truest sense! Plus, you sit in the dark for about five minutes every hour, listening to the theme from "Pirates of the Caribbean." It's supposed to be an event catering establishment. Sorry, not my thing!

Exceptional ambience. You sit in or on a pirate ship (which is really well made) and are served a really delicious meal by a really friendly staff. Absolutely recommended.

Nice ambience with a large wooden pirate ship. Well done. Short wait for the food, despite the full house. The bread with the dip, very tasty, prawns were too cooked for me. The pork and annas skewer was delicious. But it would still have been a bit juicy. The strawberry tiramisu is a must. I recommend the atmosphere, drive by and judge for yourself. It's worth it.

A really great restaurant... I can only recommend it...

2 stars are only given for the food, which was really good, and the truly unique ambiance :) Unfortunately, the service was more than just disappointing. Not only did we have to wait 30 minutes for our first drink...but our main courses also arrived completely late, only 1.5 hours after ordering...and we, along with 8 other guests (11 in total), arrived promptly at 5 p.m. with a reservation. All of this could have been overlooked if our waiter had listened to us for just a moment or even taken us seriously. It was extremely disappointing for us, our first and last time there, as the 130 euros for 5 drinks, 3 main courses, and 1 appetizer was not worth it.

Great atmosphere, the ship is great, It's a shame that the staff isn't dressed or disguised according to the theme. The light show with music is weird, unnecessary, no action at all or a pirate coming around the corner. The bread, starter and turkey skewer were delicious. Unfortunately you won't be full because everything has to be ordered separately. There's nothing wrong with a beef fillet skewer for just €25.90 The potato SHELL chips are a joke, you won't get your money's worth from the portions!!! My husband had ribs that were not seasoned well and were not tender but tough. Nice experience, we don't have to have it again. The dessert was way too sweet and greasy, an almost raw cookie dough with 1 scoop of ice cream and chocolate underneath... a shame.

We were there for the first time yesterday. Was even better than I thought. The food, staff and ambience were really very good.

Mostly good tapas. We paid around €40 per person for food, drinks and dessert. Our table was "below deck" of the "pirate ship" built into the building. The lights go out regularly and the music from "Pirates of the Caribbean" is played when there are light effects.

Inconspicuous from the outside but as soon as you enter you are simply overwhelmed by the location. The ship is breathtaking. The service we had was also very good. We all really enjoyed the food too. Yes, you can argue about the prices of the food, but you don't go there every week. We really liked it and will definitely go there again.

What I hadn't noticed, however, was that you have to order the side dish separately. So I only had the pleasure of the main course without any side dish. But that wasn't so bad. The ambience is really something special – stylish and inviting. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the service. The waiters seemed clueless, the wrong orders were brought to our table twice and we later discovered a drink on the bill that we didn't even have. After our complaint, the waiter seemed personally offended. The food was ok, the meat was tender but nothing outstanding. However, you have to order each side dish separately, which quickly increases the price. There was actually no choice for our four-year-old son - just the pirate skewer with four nuggets and fries. Too bad! Conclusion: Once you've seen it, you don't have to go there again!

Yesterday I had dinner there again with friends after a long time. The waitress was super friendly, the food was soaked in oil is not possible 🤮, cucumber salad €6.00 ​​consisted of 8 cucumber slices in oil, Carlos skewer €25.90 dripped down the oil, glass of wine €7.90 was kept tight, we left the restaurant hungry and paid a lot for it. We're not going there anymore.

Hello Yesterday we were at Carlos with 4 people and 2 big dogs Labbi and Berna to spend a nice evening. The ambience is phenomenal as is the service (the extremely friendly Lina served us), the food is of very good quality and served quickly and hot. Our only comment would be that the meat skewers could be a little larger. But our evening was a complete success after I finally found a parking space. In any case, Carlos is one of our regular restaurants. 10 out of 10 stars from us.👍👍👍👍👍

Insanely great facilities, great food, great service, super nice staff

The ambience is super nice - unfortunately the service is often a bit overwhelmed, i.e. long waiting times - which can normally be quite nice - BUT - you have to clear the table after 2 hours and this is pointed out several times. This really destroys everything. Ordering with the clock on your back, hoping that the service is quick and then eating quickly because you have to clear the table is an absolute "NO-GO" - if you enjoy starters, main courses and desserts in a convivial atmosphere and in If you want to sit quietly and chat, you shouldn't go there. It's really a shame - the food and the ambience deserve more time.

I have been here four times and am absolutely satisfied every time. The food in particular is very tasty. The only drawback - although there are two parking spaces, I have never been able to get a parking space there.

So first of all I have to get one thing off my chest. I can't understand some of the negative comments here. I visited this extraordinary location for the first time with my brother and sister-in-law from the Lower Rhine near Kalkar. Just standing in front of it was enough for us totally fascinated by how much attention to detail was put into it. When we went in, some of the tables were clean and ready, but we decided on a place that still needed to be cleared, what can I say within 1 minute it was clean and ready to eat. When we ordered the food, the drinks arrived very quickly and the starter within a few minutes. I have never enjoyed anything like that anywhere before. A highlight was of course the ship and the associated presentation and decoration, and Carlos once again demonstrated a great instinct for that the detail.We had ordered the chicken piri when it came, my brother and I were thrilled. I have to say we love chicken and have eaten a lot, but when I took the first bite we had it the purest taste explosion in the mouth. Neither of us had had such a fabulous chicken before. We then had the opportunity to get to know Carlos and his family that evening and what can I tell you, he and his family are such lovely people and really human , which will make the whole evening on my 50th birthday unforgettable. He told us his story and really touched me with the passion and dedication with which he runs this restaurant. Unfortunately, one star is too many. The location is really nice, but everything else is not recommended. We waited 45 minutes for someone to take our food order, despite asking several times. Drinks exactly the same. Food wasn't particularly tasty, meat wasn't cooked through, other things were cold and other things were forgotten. Leftover food from no idea when was crouched in the huge grooves of the wooden tables, which is now also not attractive. Then the lights went out for some show. You can do it, but it's stupid for the guests sitting at the top of the ship because they have to eat at night and turn on their flashlights on their cell phones in order to continue eating. Summary: Food miserable, service miserable, drinks miserable and the price is a disgrace. Never again!

We like to arrive first, have something to drink, then order and eat the starters and then order and eat the main courses in peace. Unfortunately this is not possible here as you have to leave after 2 hours. That takes away the coziness from everything. Our daughter had already eaten her childish face when we adults received the main courses. The main courses were OK, but I expected more, they definitely weren't 250g and very oily. The atmosphere in the restaurant is unique and loving.

Unfortunately our first and last visit! The food is good to OK, with a lot of room for improvement. The service is underground, we found it to be rude at times! The blonde, unfriendly lady in service is alone a reason for me not to visit this restaurant again. Added to this is the arrogant gentleman (no apron today) who is too embarrassed to come to the table and provide reasonable service. If we hadn't raised our hands ourselves, no waitress in this shop would voluntarily come to the table, let alone ask whether we could have something to drink, whether everything was OK or whether anyone would like dessert. A while passed after the main course and the table wasn't even cleared away. We didn't feel like it anymore, it was uncomfortable and we felt really uncomfortable. We went to the front to pay the bill. A lady in service barely responded to the criticism. I don't care either... A little tip to the cooks in the open kitchen; How about a chef's jacket instead of tank tops or polos?! All in all, it's just a shame for such a restaurant!

My or our visit was a few years ago, unfortunately it was so negative that I haven't visited this restaurant since then. . We were a very large group, but the staff couldn't handle that organizationally. While some had already had their food, others only got their food when most of them were almost finished. Sometimes completely wrong orders and no apology or the right food. In addition, a friend was supposed to pay more than she had spent, apologies from the restaurant. By the way, the selection wasn't that big either.

Visited Carlos again after many years - disappointing for us. We know batatas fritas to be tastier, boiled potatoes were warmed up, meat skewers were only that big, grilled cod was dry and not enough onions. Not a highlight for Portuguese. Can't recommend it more.
