CAO Trier in Trier

While in Trier, we recently visited the restaurant and overall had a mixed experience. We waited a long time to be seated at first while there were many empty tables because the only staff was at the cash… that was a bit annoying. While waiting for our food, we received the water, but the Coca-Cola was forgotten, and we had to ask twice before it arrived. The spring rolls were a bit disappointing—they tasted a little too oily, and the summer rolls felt like something was missing. On the other hand, the Pho and the chicken curry were good, and the portion sizes were generous. Another downside is that the restaurant only provides menus in German. When I asked for another language, they told me to use Google Translate. This made it difficult for my mother, who’s not a big user of technology to understand the menu. Thankfully, one waiter was very nice and translated everything for us. Overall, the experience was good, but there are definitely some points that need improvement. It would be nice to have 2 english menus for tourists.

It was so wonderful! The most authentic and delicious Vietnamese food I've ever eaten in Germany. The food is meticulously prepared down to the last detail and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend everything, but the bao burgers and the banhoi were incredibly good. There are also very tasty options for vegetarians. The vegetarian pho was the best I've ever tasted. The service was incredibly friendly and attentive. The cocktails and drinks were also extremely good. The restaurant is perfectly located and looks really beautiful. Overall, a truly fantastic experience, and I'm already looking forward to going back the next time I'm in Trier (because it's so good, I recommend making a reservation in advance 😉).

The chicken pho was delicious! The broth was flavorful and the portions were very generous for the price. The service was also friendly despite showing up 30 minutes before closing. My husband and I will definitely be coming back! (:

I don't know of a better Vietnamese restaurant. Please make a reservation, as this restaurant is so good and therefore very popular.

A little cold and hungry, I stopped at the CAO and, after a moment's consideration, decided to stop in. As a soup lover, the sight of a large, steaming bowl filled with noodles and fresh vegetables at the next table won me over! So, without further ado, I also ordered a Vietnamese soup with plenty of chicken, noodles, vegetables, and fresh herbs. There was hardly any wait for the food, even though the place was busy. There was also a delicious snack bar/yeast dough pastry. Everything was very, very tasty. Service was perfect.

Nice place to eat Pho Bo. The portions are really large. It tasted very good. It can be a bit noisy outside, as the restaurant is located on the street.

Pleasant experience, enjoyed the lots of fresh salad greens paired with the dishes. Tried 2 dishes I usually do not see in Vietnamese restaurants: Vietnamese pancakes and Vietnamese bao burger. They were good. Beef pho was good too, soup is of the lighter variety. Our favourite was the Mixed appetizer platter, especially the summer rolls and the fried Vietnamese rolls. I wanna try the crispy chicken dishes next time. Peace.

Excellence choice for a meal in Trier!

A popular restaurant near the Porta Nigra. We really enjoyed the food! The summer roll with the delicious peanut sauce, the mango shrimp salad, and the chicken pho. These dishes are especially recommended in summer. Unfortunately, we had to endure a long wait for both our order and our food. We waited a while after ordering. Therefore, this restaurant is primarily suitable for guests with plenty of time.

10/10 Food and atmosphere are simply excellent!

Luckily, we managed to get a table at this authentic Vietnamese restaurant even without a reservation. The restaurant is actually open later, but the kitchen closes at 8:30 p.m. The food was excellent. We tried the delicious, generous appetizer platter, followed by bao buns and another main course. The portions were quite large. The lychee spritzer is also highly recommended. Unfortunately, we had to wait a bit longer for the food. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and welcoming. I've eaten at CAO several times now and can only recommend it. Since I have Vietnamese roots myself, I can say that it's truly authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and I love the food there. The service is also very attentive and always friendly. I always enjoy going there.

A great little restaurant with brilliant cuisine. The medium pho with chicken was large, fresh, deliciously seasoned and very tasty with a separate crispy stick. The highlight, however, was the Vietnamese curry with chicken, so delicious, the sauce was creamy... we'd love to come back. Tried the bao buns on the second visit, simply brilliant! The beef was nice and saucey, the chicken was crispy and sweet, spicy and 😋...

Enjoyed a delicious lunch at CAO today. The atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed and the food is super good. We ate a Pho and the Curry Viet and both had an extremely intense taste. The CAO is fully recommended! We were also well looked after.

Food was delicious, we had the bao burger which was texturally interesting, the grilled pork was decent, and the curry viet was good. However, the staff seem overwhelmed and were a little unfriendly. We found a fly in the curry and they were very dismissive. Overall decent food but the experience was marred by the service we encountered.

Small restaurant right next to the Porta Nigra. We were there very early and a spot worked out spontaneously. If in doubt, reserve ;) Food came very quickly. Service super pleasant! The Banh Hoi is highly recommended!! Very very tasty!!

The food was okay but unfortunately the taste was a bit disappointing. The service was friendly but quite reserved and more interested in private conversations.

Surprisingly bad. Very disappointing. Food was bland and tasteless. Vegetarian gyozas were fine (we ordered meat gyozas), curry was not great (chicken was not nice), the noodles were very dry (we ordered rice). Quite a mess. Maybe we were unlucky and went in on a bad day because this was really not good. Or maybe good for Trier standards. Not sure. Will not go again.

The food was delicious, but by the time we could say that, a lot had already gone wrong. The main reason for this was the waiting time, because we had to wait an hour for our food (the two of us!). Also, the high table is very uncomfortable, which felt like a never-ending torture.

Excellent Vietnamese restaurant! I recommend the phö but all the dishes are really tasty. Fast and efficient service. Cocktails to discover. Very many vegetarian options. An excellent address in Trier and very good value for money.

Pho bowl is special, but not very delicious. Perhaps because it was early in the day, the broth was not yet rich and lacked vegetables. In addition, the space is cozy and the service is polite but not attentive.

Simply fantastic!!!! Food authentic and super tasty! No matter whether it's a starter, main course or dessert - it's simply excellent and gets the TOP recommendation from us. The service is courteous and very friendly. If the restaurant is full, you may have to wait a bit and be patient, but the food makes up for it! Price performance is also TOP. We can also highly recommend the Vietnamese coffee with ice cream and the mochi - totally delicious! A great restaurant - small but nice - with lots of delicacies. We always enjoy coming here.

The food was really good, definitely recommend the Pho and the duck with noodles. The broth of the Pho tasted fresh and delicious! Meanwhile the duck was as described crispy. We also tried the Cafe Saigon, it was really good. The only thing with Cao is that the waitresses were not nice and a bit dismissive to selected customers. Still a good vietnamese restaurant to try anytime one passes by Trier.

We were at CAO Trier yesterday and felt very comfortable. After a large Pho soup with leek, coriander and chicken - which was very delicious, we took a rice dish (chicken, vegetables, peanut paste) with us. A dream... We would love to come back.

We did take away, the food was ready on time and everything was delicious. Price - quality really great!

Great restaurant. Not a huge menu, but enough selection to make you happy. The meal took a little (!) longer than average, but it was very busy and we didn't have a reservation. We were happy to even get a table. When it arrived it was very tasty and prepared with lots of fresh ingredients (mushrooms, vegetables etc). (Almost) everything as far as I can remember is also available vegetarian with tofu. Great value for money!

Very awesome Vietnamese and authentic food. The service is great. I found the high chairs at the high table quite uncomfortable. The normal seats are very comfortable. Drinks and food came very quickly, even though there was only one lady in service. I really liked it here!

The best and already my favorite slant-eyed restaurant. You must try the transparent rice rolls. It's very delicious and you can immediately see what you're eating 🤭 Everything was very delicious. It is worth trying both the meat and vegan dishes. Finally, vegans can also order normal meatless dishes instead of handshakes. 🫣😀

Apparently it's not possible to reserve a table outside unless you're good friends with the boss.

Food was fine, but there was a hair in my bowl. Were not allowed to make a reservation outside, but friends of the owner apparently did. Service was unfriendly. Wouldn't recommend this.

The BEST restaurant in all of Trier. Beautiful ambience, especially outside, you feel like you're on vacation. There is a great selection of drinks, as well as a great selection of delicious food. The waitresses are extremely friendly and professional, especially Sari is a treasure of gold. Highly recommended, 10/10.

Lovely little restaurant, nicely decorated with plants. Food was great, we had the fried noodles with duck and the pho with duck. Dog friendly and a nice atmosphere. We came for lunch on a Friday and they were mostly full.

The food was great! The curry dishes taste great and if you want to try something new you should definitely try the Bao Burgers. Price performance is simply right here. The service was very friendly, so we had a very nice evening at Cao. I will gladly come again!.

Burgers had the tastiest meat I've ever tasted. I'll try bun bo nam bo (noodles with the same meat) next time.

They did want give us tablet because we are with kids, but obviously there are 2 free table.

Food is great but all around customer service is not always good. First of all, sent a message to book on the contact form but never received an answer. Arrived to a fairly busy restaurant with just one waitress. Phone kept ringing but nobody answered. Waited 30minutes for the waitress to take my order…. Again, only plus point is food… such a shame. Restaurant needs to up it’s game in terms of service.

You're sitting pretty tight in a small room without much space. It is also relatively loud. The food itself was quite good, but somehow I was missing that certain something.

The food was very good. The service was ok. At the beginning we were greeted in a friendly way but then they forgot our drinks and to send our order to the kitchen… the table next to us arrived later and were already eating. We were expecting some compensation (free coffee for example) for the incident but we didn’t get anything. The place is cosy but very small so it can get quite crowded and loud.

Sehr lange Wartezeiten, wir haben über eine Stunde auf‘s Essen gewartet. Es hat zwar sehr gut geschmeckt. Vom Essen her sehr gut, jedoch plant viel Zeit mit ein.:) Update : Die Wartezeit hat sich deutlich verbessert. Sehr zufrieden, danke!:)

Ein wirklich tolles Restaurant, das Essen ist immer frisch und sehr lecker! Absolut empfehlenswert! Der einzige Minuspunkt ist das Hunde erlaubt sind… Das Lokal ist super klein und wenn es geregnet hat, riecht jeder Bissen nach nassem Vierbeiner…. Tipp: Auf jeden Fall reservieren, sehr beliebtes Restaurant.

Essen online zur Abholung bestellt. Keine Wartezeit , Curry und Fleisch getrennt eingepackt. Somit was das Fleisch noch knusprig. Geschmacklich sehr gut , kann ich nur weiterempfehlen

Seit vielen Jahren eins meiner liebsten Restaurants in Trier. Die Pho Suppe und der Reisnudelsalat sind meine persönliche Empfehlung. Das Essen schmeckt immer sehr lecker, es gibt eine große vegetarische Auswahl. Das Restaurant ist immer gut besucht, reservieren lohnt sich.

Restaurante vietnames, muy Rica en todo Trier, pero con mal servicio...

Wir sind hier öfter zum Mittagessen und es ist stets sehr lecker! Ich kann das Cao uneingeschränkt empfehlen.

Wir waren mit Hund da und uns wurde der schlechte Tisch direkt an der Tür gegeben. Meine Wan Tan Suppe war sehr lecker. Die knusprige Ente wurde leider von Erdnuss Sauce ertränkt.

Ich war mit meiner Familie da und wir waren alle superzufrieden... Super Preisleistungsverhältnis und netter Service. Hatten zwar nicht reserviert aber trotzdem einen Platz bekommen.👍

Tolles Restaurant, kommen seit Jahren dort essen. Besonders toll finden wir, dass fast alle Gerichte auch in vegetarisch verfügbar sind. Servicekräfte sind sehr nett und aufmerksam, das Ambiente ist super! Immer wieder gerne :)

Zeer lekkere pho gegeten die zeker niet te duur was, de bediening was correct maar niet super vriendelijk.
