Beautifully located, friendly service, delicious and reasonably priced food. Although I hadn't made a reservation, a table was quickly found for me. The restaurant was very busy, but the service was still very friendly and fast. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the generous portion. I'd gladly come again.

Finally, a tenant in the "Old Gatehouse" who has the place under control. Everything's great, only the music is sometimes annoying (hence the one-star deduction for ambiance).

I had a delicious goulash soup for lunch 👌👌👌 and after my walk, I ate a really tasty waffle all over 😉👌👌👌 simply fantastic. I'd love to come back again.

I was passing through with some colleagues for breakfast. It was very tasty and the price was fair. The service was friendly. Payments accepted with cash and VISA.

Finally back in the old guard's house, I thought. Today I was quite disappointed. The Caesar salad was dressed with pre-made dressing, and the chicken tasted frozen, was dry, and barely seasoned. The service was friendly, and I like the lovely ambiance on the terrace. Next time, I'll just come for a drink.

Great place and highly recommended! The Alte Wärterhaus is truly a highlight. A super cozy atmosphere right next to the dam, super friendly service, and truly impressive food. Large portions, great taste, and fair prices. What's also particularly cool is that you can sit outside in the beer garden while the kids play in the sandbox. It's also perfect for families. Bottom line: If you want delicious food and a great atmosphere, this is the place for you. We'll definitely be back!

I can't just recommend the place, I can recommend everything. We were there last night at 6 p.m. The welcome and service were super friendly. It's so lovingly and tastefully decorated that you immediately feel at home. Very clean and well-maintained. The food was excellent. Freshly prepared, with a not-too-extensive menu, including seasonal dishes. I can recommend the farmer's schnitzel, although it was surpassed by the homemade chili hollandaise. The salads were fantastic. The portions and value for money were very good. Unfortunately, we didn't have time for dessert. The short wait was acceptable. We went to the Warden's House for dinner with a larger group. Due to the pleasant temperatures, we sat outside. The ambiance is lovely and very well-maintained – top-notch. The service was very pleasant and friendly, despite the terrace being full. We all enjoyed the food; the portions were generous, and the prices were fair. I recommend a walk along the dam before or after dinner. Summary: We'd love to come back 👌🏻

Unfortunately, there's nothing vegan at all and very few vegetarian options. This is very unfortunate and somewhat backward these days. Edit, after the restaurant's response: You seem to have misunderstood my comment. I never requested a fully vegan menu. I simply said that some vegan options would be welcome. The goal of this review was to inform other vegans that they probably won't find what they're looking for at this restaurant. Everything I said in the original text was true. Maybe you should practice your reading skills. You won't get any praise from me for offering fries, potatoes, or salad as vegetarian options. These are probably the most boring vegetarian options there are. Vegans will definitely not be happy with your menu, and vegetarians might have trouble too. "Flexible menu": No thanks, I don't want a potato without sauce or a salad without anything, especially without dressing. I'm very sorry for you that cruelty-free dishes don't seem to be an option. We waited an hour for our food. It also took quite a while to order new drinks. Unfortunately, the food wasn't particularly great either.

After being annoyed with the owners/service staff several times, I've decided that I'll eat and drink elsewhere in the future! I'm a regular at Breitenbach and often visit the restaurant. A while ago, I wanted fresh water for my dog. The owner rudely explained to me that there was water outside, but I had thrown it away. Yes, I had! Because it was completely dirty! I didn't get fresh water, so I went to the restroom with my own water bowl and got some. A no-go for me and *not* customer-friendly. In the evening, I once experienced the staff independently deciding how long the kitchen and the entire restaurant would be open! We were asked to leave the restaurant an hour before the official closing time. By the way, we weren't the only guests who were escorted out! Yesterday we stopped by for breakfast. The dog's water bowls were dirty again, and I didn't even ask for fresh water. I made sure the bowl was clean and the dog got fresh water myself! The restroom wasn't clean, even though the restaurant had only been open for 20 minutes! Breakfast was okay, but they didn't provide an extra plate, even when I asked. According to the restaurant, breakfast is always served without plates. The service and friendliness have deteriorated considerably, and despite the nice atmosphere, I won't be coming back. In the future, the owners who make me feel welcome will get my money!

The space is small, packed with tables, everything is far too cramped, and the noise level is enormous. Service is quick, but the staff seems stressed. The food wasn't to our taste.

Very friendly and attentive staff. We immediately felt welcomed. All of their individual requests were catered to. Tables, placemats, and menus were disinfected after each guest. Christian was simply a professional service employee who understood gastronomy and service 👍🏻 The food was very good and beautifully presented. Toller Service, köstliches Essen und eine Top-Location direkt an der Talsperre. Wir waren in einer großen Gruppe zum Mittagessen in dem Restaurant. Unsere Wünsche wurden alle erfüllt, der Service war trotz voller Tische stets freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen wurde schnell zubereitet und war sehr lecker. Vorspeise, Hauptgericht, Nachtisch und dann noch Kaffee und Kuchen. Alles war sensationell. Allerdings Obacht: die Portionen sind groß!

Immer wieder gerne ins Wärterhaus, wir wurden absolut freundlich bedient. Wir hatten "Siegerländer Krüstchen", mit einem schönen Salat und Pommes. Alles super lecker und wirklich toll zubereitet. Keine Friteusen-Schnellkost, sondern ein liebevoll bereiteter Teller. Wir waren top zufrieden und werden dieses schöne Lokal immer wieder gerne besuchen. Auch das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis ist top.

We had lunch in the guard's house with 15 people for our wedding...it was great! Perfect service by a perfect waiter. Many thanks to him for being so friendly, attentive and kind! Nice and attractively decorated restaurant at the Breitenbachtalsperre, where dogs are welcome. The persons were very friendly. The food was very tasty and the portions were (too) large, but what is left is packed for you and you can take with you. Soup bowls were large and well filled. The Balkan salad was crispy and fresh and so much that we could make 2 small salads from it the next day 😃. The mushroom schnitzel was also excellent. First of all, the staff is super friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food now tastes like finished products (sauces, schnitzel, etc.), see other reviews. This is probably due to the crowd. Every free meter is used to set up one more table. This mass processing takes away the charm of the once lovely café/restaurant. The noise in the interior makes it uncomfortable. As soon as you can sit outside again, the location and the view will be a reason to linger and enjoy one of the excellent waffles, for example.

Been going there for more than 10 years! I've been eating waffles for several years and have always said the best waffles are in the guard house. But what I experienced on Saturday was amazing. The waffles were dark brown we let go back. Then the boss came and wanted to thank me for making it new, but like a fury she delivered us the waffles, but they are now raw inside! In some cases it was true and it was suggested to us that they did not depend on us. I will definitely not support Porsche any more.

Personal review: I would like to share my experience with the owner's service, which unfortunately was not positive for me personally. About four weeks ago I made an appointment with the owner, but during the meeting she hardly took any time to give detailed advice and plan my celebration. She pointed out that she had a maximum of 10 minutes. In addition, I was only given a seat when I asked, and unfortunately I was not offered a drink. The wishes I expressed for the celebration were largely rejected. For example, it was not possible to exclude schnapps from the offer and information on prices was provided insufficiently for my liking. I waited four weeks in vain for my request for a written offer. When I asked by phone, I found out that the originally planned appointment had already been taken. It's a shame that the restaurant didn't inform me about this. For me, this service represents inadequate customer service. In addition, the email address I provided, which I provided solely and exclusively for the offer, was used to accuse me of defamation and to threaten legal action, which I find to be inappropriate and invasive.

With the sun shining brightly, there was no room left in the restaurant - the nice owners had set a table for us on the upper floor (holiday apartment?) so that we were completely alone. Went to the Café Restaurant Altes Wärterhaus for the first time today and was totally thrilled. The ambience itself is beautiful. And beautifully decorated for Christmas. The service was very friendly and attentive. Our breakfast was also very plentiful and left nothing to be desired. I will definitely come back and have a proper meal here. And even when the weather is nice, it will be a great place to relax after a walk around the dam or just to relax.

Four days ago we had dinner there with 9 people in the evening from 6 p.m. We had pre-ordered the food and it tasted very good. We also knew that the restaurant was only open until 9 p.m. At around 8:00 p.m. the employee told us that he wanted to collect now and that the restaurant would then be closed. We then said we would like to have a drink and that the restaurant was open until 9 p.m. But then we had to leave the restaurant and were very surprised and annoyed by this reaction. There were also several indefinable insects on the walls in the entrance area of ​​the hallway, where there was also seating. For hygiene reasons, this shouldn't be the case in a restaurant where people eat and drink. That's a shame, the Wärterhaus restaurant was actually always a good address where you could feel comfortable.

I had dinner with my girlfriend in the old guard house at the weekend. The store looks very nice and clean and the table decorations and the counter area are also attractive. We had a seat for two in a niche by the window, there were also a lot of other guests there, which is why it was rather loud and it was relatively easy to overhear other people's conversations. It didn't bother us, but if you like it quieter, you should ask for another place. At the table we got the cards and ordered drinks straight away. I had the ChilliHolly schnitzel with the house fries and my friend had the farmer's schnitzel with braised onions and fried potatoes and there was also a mixed side salad. The ChilliHolly sauce (spicy hollandaise) was also really tasty and went great with the schnitzel. The schnitzel itself wasn't the best I've ever eaten, but it was also stable. The house fries were very good, perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just as it should be, so a clear recommendation for this side dish. The side salad was already prepared and varied with the cabbage and carrot slaw hidden at the bottom. After we got our food, we were unfortunately neglected by the service, we were not asked if we liked it and afterwards we only got the cards for dessert when we asked. We also treated ourselves to this after a walk around the Breitenbach. We shared a banana Nutella waffle, which worked great because it consists of 2 waffles. This also tasted very good. Overall, you can highly recommend the Altes Wärtehaus, especially because of the good location and the delicious food 👍

The atmosphere is great, young and old come together here, whether it's a wedding party or a day trip. The choice of colors and decoration both inside and outside were well coordinated and created a feel-good atmosphere. In the outdoor area there was even a bit of a holiday feeling when the weather was good^^ The rooms seemed clean and tidy and the staff were friendly. The restaurant was busy when I visited, so I had to wait a bit for my order to be taken. These were then brought to the table very quickly and correctly. I can't currently give a review about the food and sanitary facilities because I didn't use this service during my visit. In my opinion, the prices are reasonable at this point in time.

Sehr schönes Ambiente. Leider reagierte der Chef auf eine freundlich dargebrachte Reklamation sehr frech, beleidigend und war kurz davor, uns hinauszuwerfen. Die Kritik am Salat war angebracht, wollte aber leider nicht gehört werden… Man mache das immer so… Total in der Joghurtsoße ertränkt und das bei einem Caesars Salad … Schade - nicht zu empfehlen - da der Chef frech und unverschämt ist.

Very nicely located excursion restaurant directly at the Breitenbachtalsperre with plenty of parking space. You walk around the dam on a well-developed tarmac path for about an hour and can then stop here for a delicious home-style meal or sweet dishes. (08/2024) A very nice atmosphere right at the top of the Breitenbachtalsperre, plus delicious food and great service. The outside terrace is covered by an awning and is very, very large. There is a large garden with a sandpit for children to play in. The toilets are very clean. The selection of food is not too large, but the portions are very large.

Ate on the terrace around 6pm on Friday 16 August 24. Despite the full restaurant, the waiter was highly professional, emphatic and completely calm. With the support of a colleague, everything went smoothly. Food and drinks were impeccable. This is how gastronomy should be.

Leider keine gute Erfahrung. Unfreundliches Personal. Das erste was gefragt wird, ob man reserviert hat. Wir waren um 16 Uhr für einen Kaffee u Kuchen dort. Nein wir hatten nicht reserviert, zu dreiviertel waren die Tische nicht besetzt. Wir sollten dann an einen Biertisch mit Bänken ohne Lehne in der Sonne sitzen, wir fragten nach einem anderen Tisch u der wurde uns nur widerwillig erlaubt. Der wäre reserviert, natürlich kam niemand für einen reservierten Tisch. Letzten Endes unerfreulich. Wir wollten ein Sitzkissen, das gab es nicht. Statt einer Flasche Mineralwasser bekamen wir völlig ein überteuertes Wasser aus der Leitung. Preis und Leistung passen hier nicht. Die Speisen sind nett dargeboten aber nur durchschnittlich. Dazu noch eine unhöfliche Stimmung. Wir kommen nicht mehr wieder, man kann seine Zeit besser verbringen. Schade für das schöne Ambiente, aber die Pächter, auch der Vorgänger waren ohne Freundlichkeit und weit weg von guter Gastronomie.
