I was surprised by the good atmosphere, the friendly service and, above all, the very tasty offerings. I had a lunch menu for €8.80. I was already enthusiastic about the soup t. Such delicious food for the price, hard to find these days. How do they do that? This restaurant definitely deserves the 5 ***** rating.

The food is delicious and seems fresh. What we are missing is a little more communication, demand for drinks…….. The service is mainly made up of non-German speaking ladies who look unfriendly, as if they have to work there under duress. So open friendliness is a drawback.

The food is deliciously seasoned. On the menu there are various dishes that are also spicy from one to four chili peppers (hot). Ambiance is fine. It's a good place to go for a meal with the family. In summer there are also opportunities to eat outside. The portions will leave you full. In terms of price, everything is okay. normal prices. I didn't find a buffet. But the menu has a large selection. The appetizers are also delicious.

We were there on July 15, 2024. After we had a place outside, We were able to order after a relatively short time. Waiting time for the food was ok. Even when it started to rain and we had to change places without further ado, the service was also good. The food is, I would like to say it in a somewhat friendly way - well. The Tom Kha Gai soup tasted almost exclusively of fish sauce - no trace of coconut milk The beef salad Yam Nuea - pure fish sauce - otherwise well The main dish Nüa Krapao - you have to look very carefully for the fresh basil that actually makes this dish (the names of the dishes are written exactly as indicated in the menu) In short - go to a Chinese snack bar of your choice, there are better alternatives How do I, as a farang, know and judge this? I've been in Thailand regularly for over 30 years and have been married to a Thai woman for almost as long - so I guess that I know one or two dishes. There was no service during or after the meal. Every now and then someone would look on the outside terrace to see if we were still sitting at the table. but drinks orders or payment were simply not offered or ignored. At some point we got fed up and went into the restaurant to pay - I think we completely confused the waitress because they wanted to offer us a table for dinner. To be honest, the only time I see the Blue Elephant store is when I drive past it. But I won't stop and eat there anymore given the circumstances.

Was here a few times in a row and the service was not the boss but the girls were quite unfriendly. The food is made with love, the cleanliness is very questionable, it starts outside... in everything there is better.

The food tastes good and the prices aren't as sky-high as in many other restaurants. A whole group of young women deliver food and drinks. All of them without a word, a smile or a question as to whether it was tasty, just plain unfriendly. I've experienced this many times now. I have also fallen silent and no longer thank you for something served because it is not reciprocated.

Price/performance is great, In the evening three main courses, 3 shandy, 2 cocktails, 2 cokes and 1 water just under €76. Sufficient parking spaces - lots of choice on the menu. Starter cheese balls with plums - sauce a bit disappointing - but definitely a matter of taste.. Food attractively prepared - hot and tasty. Ambiance is not that nice - but everything is clean and clear. There are also plenty of seats outside. Quiet and green

We visited this restaurant because of a voucher and were thrilled! Good portions, curry dishes, especially massaman curry, were delicious and tasted authentically Thai. Food came quickly. Happy to come back!

We would love to come back. You can park easily right in front of the restaurant. The exterior and interior decoration is good.

Wir waren an einem frühen Sonntagabend zu zweit dort essen. Auf der etwas in die Jahre gekommenen, aber immer noch schönen Außenterrasse haben wir auch ohne Reservierung einen Platz bekommen. Man sitzt nahe am Grünen und weit weg genug von der Straße. Das Personal war freundlich. Die Aufnahme der Bestellung ging zügig. Die Wartezeit bis zum Servieren des Essen war moderat und im Bereich des Normalen. Das Essen war gut gewürzt und nach unserem Geschmack. Dank Stövchen auf dem Tisch wird es auch draußen nicht kalt. Der Wunsch nach Prik Nam Plaa zum Nachwürzen wurde leider falsch verstanden und es gab stattdessen eine scharfe Chilisauce, die aber gut war. Die teils harschen Kritiken konnten wir jedenfalls nicht nachvollziehen und werden gerne wiederkommen.

The food was very tasty and plentiful, the cocktails were a bit sweet for my taste and personally I would like more cocktails that weren't so juice-heavy, but at least there is a large selection. There aren't a lot of parking spaces, so you might want to know that beforehand if you're traveling in a large group.

Poor German speaking service, The rice noodles were from the lunch menu an inedible mess. I ate some of the delicious duck that my husband ordered, which was also on the lunch menu. This was the first time the food was so bad. We've been there several times and it's always been good. After our complaint, the waitress didn't understand us and then made us pay the full price.

The boss is nice, but the girls there are very unfriendly. You can tell from their faces that they have zero desire to work. They already sigh or look annoyed when you call them. We'd rather just get something pick up. Unfortunately, I can't recommend eating there.

💙🐘 Every time I drove past here I wanted to eat here. I can tell you just do it. The full parking lot 🚗🚗🚗 speaks for itself. It's best to call ahead. The food is fresh & tasty and portions are nice and big. It is worth it!!!

Bedienung der beiden jungen ukrainischen Damen komplettes, katastrophales Verhalten. Getränke wurden mürrisch auf den Tisch geknallt. Einzig die asiatische Dame war sehr freundlich. Diese beiden jungen Damen sollte man zwingend austauschen! Sie vertreiben die letzte Kundschaft. Essen war gut!

Unfortunately not very authentic. Typical "Asian something" a la carte. Food was okay, nothing earth-shattering. Atmosphere was more pub-like.

The ambience makes you feel comfortable, but it is already very old. Food was OK, unfortunately not anymore. The meat was crispy and not tender (duck). The portion could have been a little more. Staff (female) across the board were underground, perhaps because the sun wasn't shining...no eye contact, some didn't say a word and everyone looked grim. It went something like this; Eat and leave the restaurant as quickly as possible. Very unfortunate.

Good food for an excellent price

A cozy Thai restaurant with very tasty food and a relaxing atmosphere, like a short vacation in Thailand. The food and ambience are usually very harmoniously accompanied by the music. For us it is definitely an insider tip with a very good price-performance ratio. We really enjoy coming here regularly. Recently, some of the Ukrainian employees have been a bit reserved (probably due to their limited knowledge of German), which some people could misunderstand as rudeness, but you shouldn't let that unsettle you. Most of the time you are served by the owners anyway and the core product is really top We think it is commendable to also give newcomers a chance. Our tip to the owners would be to train the staff to reduce uncertainty. Or simply to openly communicate/point out that some of the employees are not yet very fluent in the German language. This would reduce uncertainty and prevent misunderstandings. Otherwise it's a great shop that we enjoy visiting!

Really nice restaurant, the food was delicious. Unfortunately, the parking situation is very dangerous in the evening when it is dark. There are about 8 parking spaces in front of the restaurant, which were already full. You have to park on the side of the street, as there is no sidewalk there, walking in the dark is very dangerous as there are no lanterns.

Tastes and expectations vary; The waitresses tried hard and the food was served quickly. In terms of taste, it was rather uninspired and not very close to Thai cuisine. Other Thai restaurants in the area offer very high quality food, so the Blue Elephant is poor in direct comparison. Personally, I wouldn't come here again, but I give it 3 stars because I can understand that the relatively cheap prices are attractive for some people and that the restaurant is therefore particularly frequented by pensioners.

After a long time, finally back in the blue elephant - and expectations were 100% fulfilled! Service friendly - food and drinks are served very quickly. The dishes arrived at the table very hot and were all delicious! Price/performance is unbeatable here! Maybe the ambience could be worked on a bit - nothing has changed in years! All in all, definitely worth a visit!!

Been there for the first time. First impression... everything is very old-fashioned. Good menu. The food came very quickly. Portions were good. The taste was ok. Everything was fresh. Really good value for money.

Super tasty and always fresh food! We always enjoy eating here :) Price performance is also more than fair here. Here you can also afford to order a little more. We were last there 1 week ago. 2 persons, 1 each soup, main course and bedside and everyone had 2 drinks and it was still under 45€! :)

There may be dishes on the menu that are okay. At least that's what we hear often. Personally, I was there a total of 4 times. I was there twice and picked something up twice. Just like today. Pre-ordered by phone, ready promptly. No problem. However, I no longer agree with the taste and the price/performance ratio. No. 59 was ordered, chicken served with special sauce. To be honest, I'm not willing to pay 12.90 for a chicken breast on iceberg lettuce with sweet and sour sauce from the bottle and a portion of rice. And then very little sauce. All in all, a pretty dry affair. I ate something different every time. Unfortunately, the Blue Elephant hasn't really convinced me yet. Neither for lunch nor in the evening. Unfortunately.

The food was good and plentiful, the service friendly and the price-performance ratio is excellent. I particularly liked the very good selection of non-alcoholic cocktails.

We were here on Friday with 6 people, the restaurant was well attended, but some tables were still free. The service was very friendly and quick. We were definitely curious about this point because we have also read reports to the contrary. But this has not been confirmed for us at all. The food, everyone had a different dish (starter, main course, dessert), was very different. A dish with "3 peppers" was not spicy, another in the same spiciness category was hot/spicy (people experience it differently). For the same category, the difference in sharpness was extreme. With two actually different dishes, the difference couldn't be seen on the plate. I myself had the crispy “blue elephant” duck. The duck was crispy, tasty and the sauce was delicious. However, I would have expected the dish to be a little hotter or spicier since it was marked with a pepper. In this respect, from my point of view, the food was overall "solid", for me it wasn't the best Thai in town, but there was no reason to be upset afterwards. The really friendly and good-humored service made the evening a really nice evening with good friends.

We were here again on Wednesday with 6 people. As always, reserve a table in advance. Despite being busy on a weekday, everything went smoothly and quickly as expected. All starters and main courses came to the table quickly. Generous portions, everything delicious, a restaurant where you can still eat well and cheaply. The service was super friendly and even joking.

Good selection, friendly service and the price is right too. Gladly again.

Ruhig,gemütlich und das Essen ist Top. Meine Frau und ich sind wirklich selten ganz zufrieden, hier hat es aber geklappt. Es gibt vielleicht wenig bessere hier in Dortmund und Co, aber für so einen fairen Kreis wohl nicht!! Wir sind mittlerweile weggezogen, kommen bei Familienbesuchen aber hier immer wieder vorbei!

Ein Besuch lohnt sich. Geschmacklich sehr authentisch, nicht der übliche typische Asia-Restaurant Stil. Unbedingt die Tom Kha Gai probieren!

Wir waren mit 6 Personen dort zum Essen, weil unsere Tochter Geburtstag hatte. Wir hatten ein 3-Gänge-Menü, das auch sehr lecker war. Das Personal wirkte irgendwie genervt und wenig freundlich. Obwohl offensichtlich war, dass unsere Tochter ihr Geburtstagsessen hier hatte, da sie auch ihre Geschenke dort ausgepackt hat, wurde ihr noch nicht einmal gratuliert. Wir waren lange nicht mehr dort und sehr enttäuscht, wie es sich dort verändert hat.

Wir waren schon sehr oft Essen in diesem Restaurant. Jedes Mal haben wir sehr leckere Gerichte bekommen. In Punkto Thai einer unserer Lieblingsadressen. Sehr freundliches Personal und das Essen kommt auch sehr schnell…

Geschmacklich gut, leider werden die Service Kräfte ihrer Aufgabe nicht gerecht. Bemängelt wurde ein kaltes Essen, bei nochmaliger Servierung war das Essen immer noch unzureichend erwärmt. LG JM

Wenn wir in Herdecke sind zu einem Besuch,steht das Lokal Blue Elefant auf unserem Programm zur Mittagszeit.Wir empfelen es weiter,weil alles dort gut bis sehr gut ist.Speisenauswahl,frische Produkte,Amniente,Service.Aber vorher reservieren wäre angebracht.

Nettes Thailändisches Restaurant mit gutem Essen. Die Portionen sind mehr als ausreichend und geschmacklich sehr gut. Schade ist, dass direkt am Anfang der Karte darauf hingewiesen wird, dass Geschmacksverstärker verwendet werden. Daher für das Essen einen Stern Abzug. Der Service ist nicht der beste. Wir waren mit einer größeren Gruppe da. Bevor nicht alle da waren, wurden wir noch nicht mal nach Getränken gefragt. Auch als das Essen da war oder schon aufgegessen war wurde nicht gefragt ob wir Ggf noch mehr benötigen oder möchten. Abgeräumt wurde erst als wir darum gebeten haben. Da muss ich sagen, dass sind wir anders gewohnt. Daher für den Service nur 3 Sterne. Das Ambiente ist ganz ok. Etwas in die Jahre gekommen aber mit Charme. 4 Sterne. Wer gut Thai essen möchte und Service nicht übermäßig fordert ist hier gut aufgehoben.

Eigentlich ist das eines unserer Stammlokale. Doch im September waren wir dort und sind nach 1,5 Stunden gegangen, ohne unsere bestellten Gerichte bekommen zu haben. Lediglich ein Getränk pro Person und eine Vorspeise hatten es bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt an unseren Tisch geschafft. Auch nach mehrmaligem Nachfragen und den Beschwerden von anderen Tischen, fand kein Essen den Weg zu uns, wobei viel später angekommene Gäste ohne Vorspeisen in dieser Zeit schon gegessen und bezahlt hatten. Wir gingen nach einem Gespräch mit dem Chef ohne zu bezahlen, da wir wirklich über den sehr unorganisierten Service enttäuscht waren. Heute waren wir wieder dort, trotz allem. Der Service war heute besser, aber leider ließ die Qualität der Speisen heute zu wünschen übrig. Die bestellte scharfe Suppe war so mild, wie eine Brühe, eine Reklamation wurde ignoriert. Die Käsestangen hatten eine so dicke Panade wie noch nie, die Frühlingsrollen schmeckten verbrannt und die kleinen Schweinefleisch Spieße waren so zäh, dass wir sie nicht gegessen haben. Und zu guter Letzt brachte die Kellnerin noch die Nachforderung unseres letzten Besuchs in Höhe von 15,90€. Was eine kulante Geste. 🤪 Seit Jahren empfehlen wir dieses Restaurant vielen Freunden und Bekannten, gehen regelmäßig, mindestens alle 2 Wochen dort essen und dann zieht sich der Chef an so einer kleinen Summe hoch. Ich habe das Gefühl er bemüht sich nicht mehr um Gäste. Der Laden läuft ja irgendwie und auf ein paar mehr oder weniger Gäste kommt es ihm nicht mehr an. Es war ein sehr enttäuschendes Abendessen.

Unsere Erfahrungen bei Blue Elephant ist sehr positiv. Lecker, super nette Bedienung, alles ganz flott. Es hat sich richtig gelohnt was neues auszuprobieren:)

Die Gerichte sind sehr lecker. Der Mittagstisch von 12.00 Uhr bis 15.00 Uhr (außer am Sonntag) ist dazu noch super günstig.

Wir sind fast jede Woche da und es ist immer phantastisch lecker . Wir lieben es.

Wir waren jahrelang gerne dort. Im Sommer ist die Außenterrasse ein Traum, wunderschöner Ausblick. Im Restaurant selbst ist es ein wenig altmodisch, aber das Essen ist eigentlich immer sehr gut gewesen und das zählt im Endeffekt. Ich weiss nicht warum der Service seit Wochen dermaßen miserabel ist, dass ich ein Besuch dort nicht empfehlen kann. Wir sind jetzt innerhalb von 6 Wochen 2x dermaßen enttäuscht worden, dass wir diesen Laden nun endgültig von unseren Restaurantbesuchen streichen. Wir waren zu 4 und haben bei beiden Besuchen 2 Std auf den Hauptgang warten müssen. Es dauerte ewig bis die Getränke kamen, Vorspeisen werden zeitversetzt gebracht, so dass ein "Miteinander essen" gar nicht möglich war. Nach 3maligen Nachfragen, wann denn das Essen kommt, wurde es gebracht. Nein, nicht zusammen, sondern wieder zeitversetzt. Benutztes Geschirr bleibt auf den Tisch stehen, es wird nicht abgeräumt. Vollkatastrophe! Was allerdings am schlimmsten war, der Chef ist völlig ignorant und hört sich die Beschwerden zwar an, allerdings mehr als ein Entschuldigung und einen schönen Abend gewünscht kommt nicht. Sehr traurig und für mich unvorstellbar! Nie wieder Blue Elefant!

Sehr lecker! Nach dem Essen gern auch nach Mitnahme der Reste frage- Doggybag ist hier nicht ungewöhnlich. Am Aussen-Ambiente müsste dringend etwas getan werden. Schöner Ausblick von der neben dem Haus gelegenen Terrasse, leider auch an einer recht befahrenen Straße gelegen, deshalb müsste eine freundlichere Ausstattung her. Innenbereich sehr traditionell, Toilette leider im Keller! Parkplätze am Haus und entlang der Straße.
