The food is good, but not super tasty. The starters and soup are delicious, but the duck is also good, but dry, and it's not very spicy, even though there are 3 chilies in it. Servis is nice

It's difficult to get original Thai food in Germany anyway, and the food wasn't as spicy as expected, just a little better, but the restaurant is still recommended.

The restaurant features beautiful Thai decoration, creating an authentic atmosphere. However, some tablecloths were already visibly worn. The warm serving was particularly practical for larger portions as it kept the food warm for a long time. We ordered the “Phi Phi Island” platter for two, which consisted of spring rolls, a soup, four different dishes, a bowl of rice and a choice of dessert (ice cream or lychee). The portion was very generous, almost too big for two people, so unfortunately there was a lot left over. While the chicken had a slightly unpleasant smell, the fish, duck and vegetables tasted excellent. The rice was served separately so you could take it individually. Overall, the price-performance ratio was really more than fair. As for the starters, the spring rolls could have been a little tastier, but unfortunately the soup was far too salty. The “Bangkok Night” cocktail wasn’t really that convincing in terms of taste. For dessert we opted for the lychees, which were disappointing - a more creative or fresh option would have been appreciated. The staff was polite, but didn't seem particularly friendly. The seating arrangement in the cold corner outside the main hall was a bit awkward as the tables there were very close to each other. When the restaurant is full it can get quite noisy. Another point of criticism concerns safety: the candles and candle holders on the edge of the table were quite high and did not seem stable. Guests at the next table also ordered a dish with a fire bowl on which fresh meat was grilled. Since there was no extractor hood, this led to unpleasant smoke in the room. Overall, a restaurant with a great atmosphere and delicious dishes, but with little room for improvement in terms of freshness, safety and interior design. However, the price-performance ratio is very good.

We have been to the Blue Elephant several times. Great food. We will always come back.

Highly recommended for not much effort and still very tasty food with a great price-performance ratio. Have been there very often. A reservation is recommended, but we have often spontaneously gotten a table for two.

We reserved a table for 8pm on a Friday evening. Once there, 6 other people who had also reserved tables had already gathered in the entrance area. You were not greeted, nor were you informed about the situation - you were simply ignored. After we asked a waitress about the status of things after just 15 minutes of waiting, we were pointed to the colleague, who also couldn't give us any information. We drove specifically from Bochum to Herdecke, we definitely won't do that again - it's a shame. We have enjoyed eating here in the past.

Very tasty, fresh food. The order was quick and so was the preparation. I had a Tom Yam Goong soup as a starter, it was marked with 3 chili peppers, but it was very well tolerated and not very spicy, just very tasty. So for the main course I had Güy Teow Pahd Thai noodles (rice noodles with peanut sauce and shrimp), these were my absolute highlight. Creamy, spicy, super tasty. All in all, highly recommended!

Seit dem Bestehen des Restaurants bin ich immer mal wieder dort zum Mittagessen eingekehrt. Gestern, an einem Montag Mittag, war ich allerdings sehr enttäuscht! Die von mir immer als besonders reichhaltig und preiswert gelobte Mittagskarte enthielt nicht mehr die sonst so besonderen Speisen mit Thaicurry in rot oder grün, sondern sah mehr aus wie die Speisekarte in einem beliebigen Chinarestaurant. Die Vorsuppe machte noch Appetit auf den Hauptgang, der dann aber eine Katastrophe war. Das Entenfleisch war knorpelig und zäh, in der Sauce des einen Gerichtes befand sich ein Fruchtcocktail aus der Dose, das andere ließ das Bett aus asiatischen Gemüsen wie Bambus, Pilze etc. vermissen. Kommentar der Bedienung, die ich dort noch nie gesehen hatte: Das war immer so! Ich konnte das aus der Erfahrung vergangener Besuche nur für "fake news" halten! Offensichtlich ist der Betrieb nicht mehr um Gäste bemüht, sondern begnügt sich mit den vielen Gästen, die sich mit der Qualität eines Fast Food Restaurants am Wegesrand zufrieden geben. Es war mal ein sehr gutes Restaurant mit authentischen Speisen. Mich hat es als Kunden definitiv verloren.

Quality below train station snack level. Anyone who is happy about the supposedly good price-performance ratio here may be happy about the huge portions, but has never come from their village to experience quality food. There is nothing Thai here at all, at most it is Asian food, as small children imagine it. In the end it tastes like it comes from a bucket of well-known ready-made products. Allergen labeling is consistently inadequate and incorrect.

If you want to get your fill very cheaply, you're in good hands here. Baked rice with beef, scampi, squid 15 euros and 3 lamb skewers starter 5.80. The meat and seafood = not high quality, which must be clear to everyone given the low prices. A lot of finished products are used. So don't expect a highlight meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant is super pleasant and invites you to have a cozy dinner. Small details in particular are particularly well taken into account here (special cup coasters, etc.). The only very inconvenient thing about this restaurant is the parking situation, as it is a bit out of the way and if the few parking spaces on site are full, then you quickly face a small problem. However, it's worth the effort to find a parking space to eat on site. It tasted super delicious and different, and I especially liked that the mini spring rolls were homemade. The service was also very prompt and quick, although there were minor language difficulties from time to time. Nevertheless, I would recommend the restaurant as it is really tasty and pleasant on site.😍 PS: It's worth making a reservation!

We often drove past and always wondered how good the restaurant must be, as there are always cars in front of it. Today we saw it for ourselves and both the quality and the price are a real recommendation. Everything was plentiful and tasty, the staff was very nice and the price was amazingly reasonable for the quality. We'd love to come back.

The Blue Elephant Restaurant in Herdecke is an absolute highlight for all lovers of Asian cuisine! The dishes not only taste excellent, but are also perfectly coordinated. I was particularly impressed by the balance of spiciness - just right to bring out the flavors without overpowering. Every meal was a feast for the senses, from the fresh ingredients to the loving preparation. The ambience and the attentive service rounded off the evening perfectly. An absolute must for anyone who appreciates authentic Asian cuisine!

If you want to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine, this is definitely the wrong place for you. The duck meat in my Thai curry was partly sticky and partly very dry. The curry itself lacked any natural ingredients such as Thai basil or lemongrass. The sweet and sour duck of my companion was on the verge of edibility. Everything is already prepared and you can literally taste that the ingredients come from canisters and buckets. What's funny is the sign that it was one of the best restaurants in the city in 2011...it was a long time ago. Zero difference to any corner Chinese man. The ambience seems very old-fashioned, unkempt and unpleasant. All in all a unique experience!

Asian cuisine is healthy, especially when it is offered in a friendly and quick manner, as is the case here

We were in this location for the first and last time this week. The ambience is appealing from the outside and from the inside too. There is a lot of activity in the entrance area with many people picking up their own items and the restaurant was well attended. We reserved a table for eight people in advance. First, four people ordered an appetizer. Unfortunately, a starter was forgotten and only brought to the table after asking twice. Unfortunately the waitress was very unfriendly and when asked again she rolled her eyes and just kept walking. Afterwards we waited an hour for the main courses, during which time many tables where the guests had arrived later were served with food. After an hour we complained and here too the young lady was very unfriendly. I understand that if the location is busy, there may be delays. However, a note that it may take some time would be appropriate and completely fine. Like maybe an apology. Then the food wasn't served at the same time. Four people received their food first, then another three people ten minutes later and another ten minutes later, then the last person. The food and the price were okay. But waiting over an hour for food and watching others who arrived much later get their food can be very depressing and also infuriating. Two of the young waitresses urgently need training in friendliness and dealing with customers.

We were here for the first time and were very positively surprised. The food was prepared very tasty. The wishes regarding the level of spiciness were perfectly addressed. The prices are very affordable for the quality. The service was friendly and quick, the atmosphere is a bit old-fashioned, but very cozy and clean. We'd love to come back.

Gastfreundlichkeit wird in diesem Restaurant leider sehr klein geschrieben - mit Ausnahme der einen asiatischen Kellnerin, die sich zumindest etwas bemüht hat, freundlich zu sein. Bei den beiden anderen Mitarbeiterinnen hatte man eher das Gefühl, sie zu stören. Ich kann mich nicht erinnern, wann ich das letzte Mal meine Getränke oder das Essen so lustlos auf den Tisch geknallt bekommen habe! Das Essen ist leider auch nicht authentisch thailändisch - durchaus schmackhaft, aber absolut nichts besonderes, und in der Form auch bei Standard Asia All-you-can-eat- Buffets zu bekommen. Alles in allem war der Besuch in diesem Restaurant sehr enttäuschend! Wer authentische, thailändische Restaurants nicht kennt, dem mag es im Blue Elephant gefallen, aber ich war definitiv zum letzten Mal dort und würde es auch leider nicht weiter empfehlen.

Delicious food, nice beer garden and cold beer

Get-together time in the Blue Elephant. It was crowded, it was busy, it was warm, but the food was really good, even though I'm not a fan of Thai food. The prices were very reasonable, so it was a nice evening.

So far we've come by spontaneously every time and every time the two of us got a table. The food is very tasty and on the table quickly. Maybe one or the other isn't originally Thai, but as long as it tastes good, it's all good for me. Only the lids of the rice pots that are served at the table need to be cleaned better.

After we hadn't been there for many years because it had become terribly bad after a change of operator, we heard that it was good again (probably another change of operator). There were also recent positive reviews. So we gave the restaurant another chance on Saturday and didn't regret it. The food was very authentic, the vegetables in the dishes were fresh and crunchy and the service was quick and friendly. Very good value for money. Even the wine was okay, which unfortunately is often not the case in places with reasonable prices. We will definitely eat there more often again.

I was surprised by the good atmosphere, the friendly service and, above all, the very tasty offerings. I had a lunch menu for €8.80. I was already enthusiastic about the soup t. Such delicious food for the price, hard to find these days. How do they do that? This restaurant definitely deserves the 5 ***** rating.

The food is delicious and seems fresh. What we are missing is a little more communication, demand for drinks…….. The service is mainly made up of non-German speaking ladies who look unfriendly, as if they have to work there under duress. So open friendliness is a drawback.

The food is deliciously seasoned. On the menu there are various dishes that are also spicy from one to four chili peppers (hot). Ambiance is fine. It's a good place to go for a meal with the family. In summer there are also opportunities to eat outside. The portions will leave you full. In terms of price, everything is okay. normal prices. I didn't find a buffet. But the menu has a large selection. The appetizers are also delicious.

We were there on July 15, 2024. After we had a place outside, We were able to order after a relatively short time. Waiting time for the food was ok. Even when it started to rain and we had to change places without further ado, the service was also good. The food is, I would like to say it in a somewhat friendly way - well. The Tom Kha Gai soup tasted almost exclusively of fish sauce - no trace of coconut milk The beef salad Yam Nuea - pure fish sauce - otherwise well The main dish Nüa Krapao - you have to look very carefully for the fresh basil that actually makes this dish (the names of the dishes are written exactly as indicated in the menu) In short - go to a Chinese snack bar of your choice, there are better alternatives How do I, as a farang, know and judge this? I've been in Thailand regularly for over 30 years and have been married to a Thai woman for almost as long - so I guess that I know one or two dishes. There was no service during or after the meal. Every now and then someone would look on the outside terrace to see if we were still sitting at the table. but drinks orders or payment were simply not offered or ignored. At some point we got fed up and went into the restaurant to pay - I think we completely confused the waitress because they wanted to offer us a table for dinner. To be honest, the only time I see the Blue Elephant store is when I drive past it. But I won't stop and eat there anymore given the circumstances.

Was here a few times in a row and the service was not the boss but the girls were quite unfriendly. The food is made with love, the cleanliness is very questionable, it starts outside... in everything there is better.

The food tastes good and the prices aren't as sky-high as in many other restaurants. A whole group of young women deliver food and drinks. All of them without a word, a smile or a question as to whether it was tasty, just plain unfriendly. I've experienced this many times now. I have also fallen silent and no longer thank you for something served because it is not reciprocated.

Wir waren an einem frühen Sonntagabend zu zweit dort essen. Auf der etwas in die Jahre gekommenen, aber immer noch schönen Außenterrasse haben wir auch ohne Reservierung einen Platz bekommen. Man sitzt nahe am Grünen und weit weg genug von der Straße. Das Personal war freundlich. Die Aufnahme der Bestellung ging zügig. Die Wartezeit bis zum Servieren des Essen war moderat und im Bereich des Normalen. Das Essen war gut gewürzt und nach unserem Geschmack. Dank Stövchen auf dem Tisch wird es auch draußen nicht kalt. Der Wunsch nach Prik Nam Plaa zum Nachwürzen wurde leider falsch verstanden und es gab stattdessen eine scharfe Chilisauce, die aber gut war. Die teils harschen Kritiken konnten wir jedenfalls nicht nachvollziehen und werden gerne wiederkommen.

Poor German speaking service, The rice noodles were from the lunch menu an inedible mess. I ate some of the delicious duck that my husband ordered, which was also on the lunch menu. This was the first time the food was so bad. We've been there several times and it's always been good. After our complaint, the waitress didn't understand us and then made us pay the full price.

The food was very tasty and plentiful, the cocktails were a bit sweet for my taste and personally I would like more cocktails that weren't so juice-heavy, but at least there is a large selection. There aren't a lot of parking spaces, so you might want to know that beforehand if you're traveling in a large group.

The boss is nice, but the girls there are very unfriendly. You can tell from their faces that they have zero desire to work. They already sigh or look annoyed when you call them. We'd rather just get something pick up. Unfortunately, I can't recommend eating there.

Bedienung der beiden jungen ukrainischen Damen komplettes, katastrophales Verhalten. Getränke wurden mürrisch auf den Tisch geknallt. Einzig die asiatische Dame war sehr freundlich. Diese beiden jungen Damen sollte man zwingend austauschen! Sie vertreiben die letzte Kundschaft. Essen war gut!

The ambience makes you feel comfortable, but it is already very old. Food was OK, unfortunately not anymore. The meat was crispy and not tender (duck). The portion could have been a little more. Staff (female) across the board were underground, perhaps because the sun wasn't shining...no eye contact, some didn't say a word and everyone looked grim. It went something like this; Eat and leave the restaurant as quickly as possible. Very unfortunate.

Good food for an excellent price

A cozy Thai restaurant with very tasty food and a relaxing atmosphere, like a short vacation in Thailand. The food and ambience are usually very harmoniously accompanied by the music. For us it is definitely an insider tip with a very good price-performance ratio. We really enjoy coming here regularly. Recently, some of the Ukrainian employees have been a bit reserved (probably due to their limited knowledge of German), which some people could misunderstand as rudeness, but you shouldn't let that unsettle you. Most of the time you are served by the owners anyway and the core product is really top We think it is commendable to also give newcomers a chance. Our tip to the owners would be to train the staff to reduce uncertainty. Or simply to openly communicate/point out that some of the employees are not yet very fluent in the German language. This would reduce uncertainty and prevent misunderstandings. Otherwise it's a great shop that we enjoy visiting!
