Bar Celona in Gießen

My girlfriend and I were here today because the restaurant is in the Schlemmerblock and we wanted to try it out. The food was really unique. We ordered a tapas platter (Barcelona) and the crabs in a garlic sauce, which were super tasty and authentically Spanish. The service was also very friendly and accommodating. At the end there was a small dessert and a schnapps on the house! Thank you for the great time and the delicious food - we'll be happy to come back!

The tapas used to be delicious, but the place no longer seems authentic, not at all like a small vacation in Spain. 45 minutes waiting for drinks with 4 occupied tables. Just the beginning. Operation advises in the event of a complaint. Cool! Reorders will only be processed if you follow up again, but only if you're lucky. The things that didn't arrive are still on the bill. When you ask at the end you get an answer... from the senior... WOW Unfortunately I have to say... It was one of our favorite places... Never again...

Have been here often - very tasty tapas, super nice service. Today, because it was my husband's birthday, everyone had champagne on the house and ice cream for the children :-) we'll definitely be back :-)

We had a very nice evening on my birthday, food and wine were very good and at the end a muffin with a candle as a little gift. I also received the photo of that evening. Thank you

A very nice evening, the food was extremely tasty, as was the wine and Spanish beer. Attentive and friendly service, overall very cozy restaurant, pleasant light. On top of that, a spontaneous birthday surprise for our friend when she handed over her present. We'll be back

Way too much money for bad food. The bread was a wild mess. Sometimes baguette, sometimes flatbread, sometimes rolls - all of the cheapest kind. The food is not of high quality and a lot of it comes from cans/jars. At the end, the waitress ran after us to collect the churros that the staff had forgotten. We were already 500m away from the restaurant. Unfortunately, a few of us didn't pay for the required 5 portions. However, we only ordered 3.

Unfortunately not honest, wrong dishes, a lot of money for bad food. We were allowed to rearrange the tables so we could sit together.

We were there with a large group. There were a lot of mistakes made when ordering, such as forgetting dishes. The tomato sauce consists of unseasoned pureed tomatoes and with everything you have to order bread, which was simply the cheapest flatbread. Half of the desserts listed were not available and the churros are just 8 frozen pieces, for a hefty price of over €6... the price-performance ratio should definitely be worked on!

We have been regular guests at the Barcelona Tapas Bar in Giessen since 2018 and can confidently say that it is still one of the best tapas restaurants we know! Of particular note is the aioli – the best we have ever tasted. Once you've tried them, you won't want anything else. Although the owner has since changed, the chefs have remained and the food is still at the usual high level. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is super friendly. You simply feel comfortable here. Absolutely recommended for anyone looking for authentic tapas in Giessen!

My partner and I ate here on a Wednesday evening. The food was great and suddenly we were surprised with a salsa party. There were a lot of people there and there was a great atmosphere. We felt like we were in Spain. Now I have to find out when the next salsa celebration is 😉

Delicious! We ordered the fish platter for two people and were totally satisfied. Plus the house wine. Always happy!

Very disappointing ….. We ordered the platter for 2 people and were hoping for more for the price. A dish listed there was not even present on the plate. You were only served two slices of white bread and that for two people 😧 The dessert, which was included on the platter, was only for one person even though the dish was designed for two people. We weren't impressed with the taste. We sat for a long time with empty glasses, even though the restaurant only had three tables. That alone could have made us suspicious. The price-performance ratio does not match. We prefer other tapas bars

NEVER AGAIN!!!! What have you (new owners) done with this sensational tapas bar???😡 We have been very loyal guests for the last 12 years and have always enjoyed being there! Unfortunately, the old owner had to give up the restaurant for health reasons. When we drove into the parking lot at around 7:20 p.m. on Friday June 7th, 2024, there was only one other car. That should have made us suspicious. Coming into the restaurant, we saw that only one table was occupied by two people. The first crystal wheat came without lemon but with 1 cracked glass. The complaint then came up again at some point: The crystal wheat became a yeast wheat and there was a black edge of mold in the lower inner area of ​​the glass🤮 Unfortunately I was so shocked that I didn't take a photo of it! They apologized again, but tried to explain to us that it was a crystal wheat 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️ The customer is stupid and doesn't see that there are two different types of wheat on the table🤷🏻‍♀️ The third wheat came and lo and behold. Suddenly it was another crystal wheat, which was then supposed to go on the house with a super generous gesture. (later, but it was on the bill) We should have left by then... The tapas arrived slowly, incorrectly, greasy, not warm, tapas that were ordered didn't come at all - but tapas that weren't ordered. The bread with the aioli was no longer warmed up either. The plastic tablecloth outside had cuts and was broken. There were three people behind the counter. The next table was also extremely dissatisfied, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. I have no idea whether they are writing a recession or not. When they left they just said that they would never go there again! After we asked again for 20 minutes and finally got the bill, we were told that not everyone in the restaurant could speak German. Funny, except that I “please the bill” (la cuenta, por favor) in Spanish said 🙄 Everything was paid for in full and we weren't even offered a drink/schnapps on the house. All in all it was over €80, which really hurts given the quality and service! What's also new is that you can no longer pay with an EC card. We can only advise anyone not to ever go there. Especially guests who know Barcelona from before. 😡👎😱 P.S.: Gastrointestinal-wise I had “fun” with the bad food for a little longer

Unfortunately, all negative recessions have been confirmed. The service (too slow / clueless / not customer-oriented), the kitchen (not fresh / not at all authentic / far too greasy / cold / overpriced) and the billing (completely out of the imagination / not justified) are all a disaster. Since I have been working in the catering industry for 35 years, I can make this statement. Bad-mouthing colleagues isn't my thing, but this was an absolute disaster. I hope the owner offers improvement in the future otherwise the store won't be around much longer.

The food was OK, but nothing more. Anyone who purchases a voucher here or has received it as a gift should read carefully. Our voucher was limited to 3 months and therefore expired. Our claim for reimbursement or offsetting less lost profit was rejected upon request. The statements as to why this was so were contradictory and incomprehensible to us. We therefore refrain from further visits.

Food is still good but was better under the old owners. You used to always have to order, but the last time I was there it was empty.

Summary: Very tasty food, service could be more attentive. Empty plates are often left on the tables and you don't have an eye for the empty glasses/drinks. In my opinion the service needs to be increased by one person or organized differently as it seems a bit unstructured.

A grab in the toilet. Underground service. You aren't even asked for drinks. After our “beautifully presented” starter (see photo), a Spanish cheese platter (approx. €8.50), the couple at the next table asked if the white wine was also available chilled (on the menu: Spanish wine like on tap) The waiter then said that the wine was from Edeka and he would always get it cold. The main course was not good. No comment. Never again.

After many years we visited the Bar Celona again with high hopes. The ambience was nice and gave us hope. However, the food was also for tapas and at that price so little that we would have needed at least twice as much. The sauce was mostly the same. Even aioli, which we love to make ourselves and is so incredibly cheap to make, was only served in a tiny bowl. Here, too, the ratio with the garlic was not right. The octopus was cut into thin slices, added to a kind of spring salad, drowned in vinegar and vegetables, you couldn't taste it and at that price. The prawns came 1/3 empty as empty shells, for which they apologized but nothing was delivered. Patatas bravas in measly portions. In addition, we wanted to order a bottle of wine with our meal and were sitting next to a full wine fridge, but were only offered the house wine several times. The only choice was between red, white and rosé. As soon as the jug was ordered and was on the table with the water we had ordered, the music suddenly turned off at 9:30 p.m., which showed us that we were no longer welcome. We were a bit perplexed by this unpleasant situation and ended up sitting in silence at the table with our wine for almost an hour. Under the circumstances we wouldn't have ordered anything else. Other guests fled quickly. All in all very unpleasant.

This restaurant is a hidden gem among Spanish restaurants, it has a quiet location, as well as a garden with a terrace and umbrellas (against the sun), which is perfect for dining in the summer (I'm a regular customer and know my way around). It has a bar, beautifully designed rooms, as well as a very clean toilet and a wide range of seating. You are greeted warmly, then the waiters come to the table very quickly, as well as the drinks and the food, depending on whether it is full or not. The staff was incredibly friendly and positive. If you are too overwhelmed by the selection of dishes, the boss herself comes and offers you to create an individual mix of cold and warm tapas. Previously it was not possible to order paella on the same day, but now you can order it on the same day (it tastes better than before). You often get appetizers or shots on the house. I don't even have to talk about the taste and all my friends love it just as much. I will continue to visit and recommend this restaurant.

Unfortunately my visit to the Barcelona Restaurant in Giessen was disappointing. I had to wait a full 45 minutes for my drinks and bread, which was really frustrating. When the food finally arrived, it was cold and no longer up to the quality I was used to in years past. What was particularly disappointing was that the Aperol was diluted with water instead of being made with Prosecco. It was also very annoying that no bread was served because it was supposedly freshly prepared and you had to wait forever for it. Overall, the visit to the Barcelona Restaurant was a big disappointment.

We have been coming to Barcelona 3-4 times a year for many years and have always been satisfied. Fortunately, even after the change of ownership, the menu and taste have not changed. Only the service is slow, even with few guests, and tapping beer is obviously not one of the strong points. The loud music is annoying, but it can be turned down a little if desired.

Service and ambience were very good. Likewise the menu. Points will be deducted for the food. Here the crab meat and prawns were not sufficiently heated. And the sea bream fillet had bones. I know... It's fish... But fillet is expected to be boneless.

We've been going to Barcelona for years. And it was always very, very tasty. Despite the change of ownership. But today it was very bad… Orders didn't come together, sometimes not at all. But it was calculated on the invoice. Unfortunately no longer recommended.

We have been coming here several times a year for 4 years but unfortunately today nothing was of the same quality as before! Some of the tapas we ordered didn't come at all, what came came at long, uncoordinated intervals and didn't taste good either. However, the dishes that were missing ended up being on the bill, which wasn't exactly low! It was also freezing cold in the restaurant! That was definitely our last visit here.

Leider nicht zu empfehlen. Die Tapas geschmacklos, spanische Wochen bei Lidl sind leckerer. Die Preise überteuert, der Service..naja. Mit spanischer Küche und/oder Gastfreundlichkeit hatte das für mich wenig zu tun. Und Rückgeld gab es auch keines, wurde anscheinend automatisch als Trinkgeld verbucht...🤷‍♀️

Qualität und die Auswahl vom Essen war bzw. gut. Die Preise sind angemessen. Der Service hingegen war unterirdisch. Falsche Speisen, vergessene Speisen und Getränke und falsche Abrechnung. Hier gehen wir definitiv nicht mehr hin.

Sehr nettes Personal, leckere Speisen. Wir waren sehr zufrieden. Wenn es unser Bauch zugelassen hätte, hätten wir gerne mehr probiert. Daher ist ein weiterer Besuch unumgänglich.

Ich war schon mehrfach in diesem Restaurant. Die Bedienung ist immer freundlich, Ambiente ist angenehm, das Essen ist lecker, die Toilette ist sauber. Der Koch kommt teilweise selbst an den Tisch, wenn nicht viel los ist und bedient dann auch. Alles in allem ein solides, wenn auch nicht super günstig, aber trotzdem tolles Restaurant.

Schon rollstuhlgerecht und man hat auch einen schönen Platz bekommen ich selber habe ein ergoflex und bin mit dem Rollstuhl im Raum sehr gut zurecht gekommen das einzige was ich nicht getestet habe waren die Toiletten wie man da mit dem Rolli klar kommt

Leckere Dorade mit gegrillten Gemüse und Knoblauch Dip. Vorab Tintenfisch Ringe. Vom Haus gab es eine mediterrane Suppe. Schade, dass an diesem Tag keine Kartenzahlung möglich war, sonst hätten wir uns auf jede Menge Tapas eingelassen. Mit unserem Essen waren wir aber auch sehr zufrieden und kommen gerne wieder.

Die Bedienung im Restaurant war leider sehr überfordert und hat die Bestellung mit unserem Nachbartisch durcheinander gebracht, da zwei Bedienungen unterschiedlich gebucht haben und scheinbar nicht kommuniziert. Das Essen war ok, aber nicht überragend. Beim Bezahlen gingen dann die Diskussionen los. Die Bedienungen wollten ihren Fehler nicht eingestehen und haben versucht ihn zu vertuschen und uns zu erzählen, sie hätten Gerichte mit Getränken verrechnet. Es war einfach kein guter Service und die beiden Bedienungen wurden dann sehr ungehalten uns gegenüber. Früher war es hier sehr schön und die Vorbesitzer haben ein authentisches Lokal geführt. Ich nehme mal an, dass die Inhaber gewechselt haben. Es ist nun leider nicht mehr zu empfehlen.

Wir haben eine Tapas Platte bestellt zur Abholung bestellt, das Essen war sehr gut, gerade der Schinken sowie auch die Datteln waren ausgezeichnet. Außerdem wurden uns zwei Nachspeisen geschenkt. Sehr zu empfehlen !!!!

Von dem Besuch waren wir insgesamt leider eher enttäuscht. Wir erhielten warme Getränke, da die Kühlung defekt war (kann passieren, sollte aber erwähnt werden bevor man unkommentiert ein warmes Bier erhält). Manche Tapas waren sehr lecker, andere dagegen, wie beispielsweise die Chorizo, welche nicht richtig erwärmt wurde, waren auch nach Reklamation nicht essbar. Zum Abschluss bestellten wir Churros, welche leider in derselben Fritteuse, wie der Fisch zubereitet wurden und so eher nach Calamares als nach Churros schmeckten. Am Ende erhielten wir dann eine sehr hohe Rechnung, die das Preis Leistungsverhältnis leider überhaupt nicht widerspiegelte.

Gesten Abend mit 4 Personen super leckere Tapas gegessen!! Sehr netter service und gemütliches Ambiente! Wir kommen auf jeden fall wieder!

Tolle Auswahl, geschmacklich wie in Spanien- mega lecker. Wir kommen bestimmt bald wieder.

Sehr gutes Essen kombiniert mit einer angenehmen Atmosphäre. Bedienung freundlich, unaufdringlich. Preislich finde ich 30€ pro Person absolut angemessen, verstehe nicht warum das hier moniert wird. Tapas sind nunmal keine Pizza. Ich komme wieder.

Das Essen war geschmackvoll sehr in Ordnung, aber in der Summe auch sehr teuer. Da wundert es mich nicht, dass das Lokal höchstens 1/4 besetzt war. Die Portion war für zu viel Geld zu klein. Sorry aber das geht nicht !

Ich habe hier schon einige Male gegessen. Das Lokal hat eigene Parkplätze am Haus. Ich mag das gemütliche Ambiente. Das Restaurant ist nicht allzu groß. Man bekommt die Speisekarte sowie einen kleinen Block sowie wenn gewünscht eine Erklärung das man für die gewünschten Speisen einfach die entsprechenden Nummern aufschreibt. Man bestellt Tapas das sind kleine Gerichte. Die gibt es als Tapas (kleine Menge) oder als Portion (etwas größer). Üblicherweise bestellt man mehrere Speisen die sich dann jeder nehmen kann. Das Essen wird schnell gebracht. Man kann jederzeit noch Speisen nachbestellen. Also anfangs nicht gleich unmengen bestellen. Je mehr man bestellt, desto teurer wird es natürlich. Momentan kann man leider nicht mit Karten bezahlen. Also genug Bargeld einstecken. Das Essen schmeckt sehr gut und am meisten Spaß macht es wenn man mit mehreren Personen kommt. Ich werde auch wieder kommen.

Sehr teuer, sehr schlechtes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Ich verstehe, warum kaum Gäste dort waren und auch am Samstag Abend, wo andere schon Tage zuvor ausgebucht waren, ein Tisch für 2 kurzfristig zu reservieren war. 2 Sterne aber trotzdem für das gute Essen.

Beschaulich meet, urig, lecker. Man sollte darauf gefasst sein, das man nur Cash zahlen kann. Tut der Sache an sich aber keinen Abbruch‼️

Sehr nett, bei niedrigen Außentemperaturen sollte man keinen Fensterplatz wählen. Im Sommer super! Köstliche grüne Soße zu den Kartoffeln, aber auch die anderen Gerichte munden sehr.
