The Balou is a cozy, quaint place with a large outdoor terrace and indoor seating. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and a consistent (political) stance. THANK YOU FOR NOT GIVING THE AfD ANY SPACE 🏳️‍🌈🫶

I've been a regular guest at Balou for many years. The staff is super friendly, attentive, and fast. Perfect for football fans, with regular free live concerts and nostalgic lollipops. Plenty of seating both inside and outside.

I think it's great that you're not giving the AfD and other Nazis any space and have kicked them out. This is exactly how you defend our democracy and send the right message against fascism, right-wing agitation, and hate.

We were promised a table, but then we were kicked out after the owner found out we were from the AfD. Yes, the owner has the right to refuse entry, but kicking out well-behaved paying customers because of their political views... We feel very unfairly treated; hence the poor review. No comment on the food; unfortunately, we didn't get that far.

The waitress said they don't have tables for AfD members. So there's no tip and no good reviews. Left-wing restaurant!

So...left-wing radical attitudes and when the employees noticed that we have a democratic understanding of politics, we were asked to leave the restaurant. It is absurd for a restaurant and especially the fact that conversations were overheard and we were expelled from the restaurant due to the racism of the shop owners, due to a different opinion despite our own migration background, I consider it absurd

We were in a group at the restaurant today, and they gave us a warm welcome. One of our companions was identified as an AfD member, after which we were asked to leave. Apart from that, the atmosphere was terrible, and the food didn't look good either. We found a much better place. Thanks for nothing 😇

Balou has been a family-run restaurant in the Kolpinghaus since 1988. The clientele is made up of students of all generations. The service is as friendly and attentive as I've only experienced in British pubs. On this warm summer evening, I'm sitting in the sidewalk café in front of the restaurant. Two trees, a small garden, and numerous potted plants shield the area from Kolpingstrasse. The extensive menu offers international cuisine, with main courses ranging from 12 to 25 euros. I opt for "Cevapcici (nine minced beef rolls with herb butter and tzatziki, served with French fries and coleslaw)." A completely different flavor dimension than many of the rubber blocks I've had to endure at numerous Balkan grills: the meat is finely seasoned, the fries crispy, the tzatziki with a clear hint of garlic. Accompanying it is a "Fränkisches Landbier Dunkel" (Dark Franconian Country Beer) from the Bayreuth Aktienbrauerei. Conclusion: Solid cuisine in the university district. What a great pub... okay, at this size, maybe you can't even call it a pub anymore. In any case, a super cozy place with a large, beautiful beer garden. The service is really friendly and quick. You can also watch football here... but everything is arranged in a way that doesn't disturb non-watchers. The food looked great everywhere. I just had a small fries with my beer. The bottom line: absolutely recommended for a great time!

Even though I didn't eat anything, I still gave it a full 5 because: I was walking and had to use the restroom for a medical emergency. The server let me go straight to the bathroom, even though the restaurant hadn't fully opened yet. These days, that alone is reason enough to earn a top rating for hospitality. The service staff are very friendly and helpful. The ambiance is great, and the restaurant looks very inviting. I'll be back soon to have something to eat with my friends. Very dissatisfied. I used to really enjoy going there. I'm from Hilter, it's my birthday today, and I was very disappointed. We ordered Sex on the Beach twice, but we got two orange juices with ice. When I pointed out to the first waitress that it was only orange juice, she told me she'd have to ask. After that, she ignored me and didn't come back to clarify. I spoke to the second waitress. I said it was just regular orange juice, and she also said she'd sort it out inside. She came back and explained to me that I should still pay the full price, otherwise she would have to pay it from her tip. I said I'd pay for two orange juices, nothing else. Mistakes can happen, even with their staff. I would have liked a compromise, but they weren't interested. Paid over 10 euros for 0.4 glasses of orange juice with ice cubes. Definitely the last time for us.

These days, they don't even respond to reservations via email anymore... Everything used to be better. Well, not everything. But at least the Balou was. And it's gotten more expensive, too.

A pub—nothing more, nothing less. Not a lounge, not a club, not a bar, and that makes it so pleasant to stop by for an after-work beer. Especially in the summer, when the lovingly designed beer garden is open. For those who care about this: Live football broadcasts are available.

The innkeeper loudly calls guests Nazis. It doesn't work at all. Food ok, ambience from the landlord but rather critical.

Were there on Saturday to watch football. The atmosphere was great, the team was very friendly, attentive but also quick-witted, great. And the big Borussia from Mönchengladbach won, what more could you want. Thank you very much 👍👍👍

The Balou impresses with its infatuation with the story of Mogli. You can discover small collectible figures and details everywhere! The mural is very impressive! The service was very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately the food was only lukewarm and very salty. One sausage was actually still cold.

1st time in balou. It was called something else 30 years ago. My son told me about how good he thought it was, and we went there for a meal and met up with the in-laws. Great ambiance, well set out, staff very attentive, efficient, and polite. Food was served in good time, although quite busy ... AND ... the house Burger ... excellent - in fact, it was verging on probably the best burger I have ever had - yes that good - and I have eaten a few in my time... cocktails were also good. All in all a most pleasant night out, which we will do again 😀

Nice pub for all ages. Preferred by students, Balou offers many different beers, some even fresh from the tap, and a diverse selection of food and other drinks. The portions are huge. I watched football here and ate a delicious dish from southern Germany: Nuremberger with stamp and sauerkraut. It was delicious. The service is very good, fast, friendly and attentive. I'd love to come back when I'm in Osnabrück.

We were only there for 1-2 drinks. There was a big football match. It's a bit louder but quite nice there.

Good and inexpensive food. The beer is very good on tap. Various coffees and teas professionally prepared. Friendly staff! So everything is fine. Since it is a restaurant with Sky football broadcasts, you should plan your visit accordingly, depending on whether you are interested or not. But there is a beer garden with alternative options. ;-)

All in all, it was a successful evening. We were there spontaneously with a larger group, which was implemented very well. There were only significant discrepancies in the billing, which made the evening a negative one. At least 2 meals were billed twice because the waitress probably didn't take it from her orderman. I would still go there again, just give me the receipts every now and then when I make a payment

In recent years a lot has happened outside, visually. I loved coming here when I was young. You can spend time here in a relaxed atmosphere.

We were there 3 years ago because we came across it by chance. Both times the waiters were great and friendly, drinks were cold enough. We would be happy to come back again on our next visit to Osnabrück.

An excellent oasis of culinary delights and exquisite service! The restaurant delighted my senses with excellent service that was not only efficient and attentive, but also had a wonderful sense of humor. Every bite of the delicious meal was a feast for the taste buds as the dishes were not only superb in taste but also served in generous portions that filled my heart and stomach in equal measure. The exquisite drinks complemented the culinary experience with their excellent taste. Even special requests such as an additional portion of tzatziki were fulfilled with an ease that made my visit a truly unforgettable experience. Overall, it was a real treat for all the senses and a visit that far exceeded my expectations.

An institution in Osnabrück for decades...in the immediate vicinity of the university and castle. Meeting point for students and people of all ages. In the summer with a nice terabyte outside. Regular appointments with live music...football live on various screens. Food at reasonable prices...not 5 star dishes but classics that you'll enjoy eating again and again. Friendly service...we really enjoy going here.

I had the chicken wings with way too many potato wedges and a salad that looked like it had been on the plate for three days. Not to mention the lack of dressing. I don't even want to talk about the olives. The chicken wings tasted very tasty, but unfortunately I couldn't enjoy them because they were very spicy (I don't like spicy). The potato wedges tasted delicious. Just too much. I also find the wall design very tasteless and careless and furnished. The menus are past their best and need to be renewed. The staff is nice and accommodating.

Atmosphere is nice, beer is good, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. A chicken nuggets plate (€11.90) consisted of 6 small nuggets and a pile of unsalted French fries. Just a few drops of sauce with everything. Way too expensive for something like that.
