ATHOS THALE in Thale

We were here for the first time. The ambience and service are top notch. We were unfortunately a little disappointed with the portion size considering the price. But the food tasted great.

It's a shame, I expected more... paprika powder is not a solution and doesn't taste the same. Garlic soup shouldn't be a thick vegetable broth and you can really expect more for the prices. Spice and salt would also be recommended Service...it was just a check-in, nothing more...so it's a real shame

We spent a wellness weekend in Thale and were there on a Friday evening without a reservation. The staff was very, very friendly and organized a table for us despite this. We really enjoyed the food. Of course there was also the obligatory ouzo. The restaurant was very busy and a reservation is recommended. We would definitely come again.

A great restaurant. Nice and friendly waiter who loves his job. You notice that. Food was very good, meat tasty & spicy. The rice wasn't quite what we liked, but as we all know, that's a matter of taste. A few cobwebs in the corner right next to our place, but hopefully they will be removed during the next cleaning.

Very good, were here spontaneously on Tuesday. Can only be recommended. Great value for money, great food and great service!

Very tasty food and a nice selection of food and drinks, food comes quickly and the atmosphere is generally pleasant, cash and card payments are possible, service is mixed (there are polite waiters and those who give you strange comments about the food selection and after). After asking for the bill, they first have to chat in detail with two other tables, then bring their orders to table 1 and then drink an ouzu together with table 2 until they ask another waiter to take the bill.)

We spontaneously went there for dinner on a Friday evening and had a limited time slot. The service was very friendly and accommodating. Our “extra request” due to an intolerance was easily accommodated. What I personally didn't like were the dogs (both large and small lap dogs) that guests had with them. I understand that holidaymakers with four-legged friends may not have any other option, but that was a point that bothered me a little. Otherwise we were very satisfied and happy to spontaneously go out to eat there.

There were three of us here and we didn't have a reservation. It was full and all the tables were reserved, but we still got a table saying we had an hour. The food was very tasty and we had enough time to eat. The service was very friendly and next time we will make a reservation 👍 Many thanks to the entire team

Super tasty and beautiful restaurant. Staff is very accommodating and very quick and always in a good mood. Even if you drop by spontaneously, you will be served immediately and can simply take the food with you without introducing yourself.

Very nice atmosphere, but completely overcrowded. We were lucky to get a table as there were only two of us. The food was really delicious.

The food was good. Unfortunately the fries were lukewarm and the ambience wasn't great. The tzatziki was good and also edible for the kids, but for me it could have had a little more garlic. It was very narrow and also very loud due to the many guests.

Hmmm, just thinking about it makes my mouth water again. We were at Athos in Thale with 2 friends in December 2024. Despite initial difficulties in getting a place (by phone), a nice place was found for us. The service was very friendly and really quick - as was the food. No matter whether it was a starter or a main course - everything was really tasty and fresh. If we're ever in the area again, we'd love to come back!

As we did last year, we were with you for Christmas. The food was very tasty, decent portions. The salad beforehand was great and very fresh. Packaging was provided for the leftovers to take away. Service is, as always, very good. My daughters were very impressed with how you handled their thanks. Please keep it up :)

We were a little disappointed. The food was quite bland, we had to wait a long time for our side dishes, which we only received after asking twice. The waiter ended up running away with our change and didn't come back at first. Here, too, we only got our change back when we asked. The meat was very tasty and everyone was very friendly.

Simply the best Greek in the area, the food was delicious, the service was very attentive and the atmosphere was new and appealing! Any time!

Well, what should you expect from a Greek in Thale, after all we have the best here in GE-Resse. Well, sometimes things turn out differently than you think. Wow, packed, we dined until after 10 p.m. and I admit, we are driving back to Gelsenkirchen with tears in our eyes because we don't know when we will be able to enjoy these dishes next time. The bifteki, the souvlaki is wonderful , infinitely tender and juicy, gyros excellently seasoned, salad, tzatziki top, the Metaxa sauce, a dream! I've never had anything so excellent from outside Greece eaten Greek! 5 stars, would like more!

The restaurant was busy and we managed to get a table for two. The meals were very rich and simply delicious.

The restaurant was already fully booked that evening, so reservations are recommended. We then took something with us and the food was really delicious. It certainly tastes even better fresh in the restaurant. We'll test that next time.

Good food, nice staff, but we froze a little. The restaurant has an indoor and winter garden area. The latter is certainly pleasant in summer - we were a little unlucky - November weather and it felt like we were sitting outside. This shortened our visit enormously.

We went to the concert in Thale and had dinner in Athos beforehand. The food was delicious and the person was super friendly, we'll be back.

After a long day in the thermal baths, we went to eat in Athos, we had been looking forward to Greek for days and were definitely not disappointed. We received a warm welcome, even though we hadn't reserved a table and the restaurant was packed. We quickly had tickets, our drinks and our first ouzo. The food didn't take long to arrive either, although we expected to have to wait a long time since the restaurant was full. Mega tasty and good portion size. Meat hot and tender, gyros highly recommended and the tzatziki was amazing. Prices are a little higher than we were used to at other Greek restaurants, but the food was worth every cent! When we are back in Thale we will definitely come back.

We were still offered a table without a reservation, even though they were really busy that evening. Absolutely great. The food is also world class and everyone is very friendly. Points are only deducted from the price. Unfortunately a bit too lavish.

Really great store. This is how I imagine a Greek restaurant. It was incredibly busy but we still got our drinks and food quickly from the waiters who were in a very good mood. Great, keep it up.

A bad breath that you won't regret purchasing.

Food is very bad, very over seasoned, cans of champions are very bad, garlic bread should be called butter bread, tzatziki definitely not homemade and takes 15 minutes. It doesn't work without service who prefers to sit at the next table and the behavior when paying is very unfriendly.

Unfriendly service, long wait for average canteen-style food. Loud, uncomfortable, stressed staff. We sat in the passage and felt like we were at a large train station.

We ate here twice during our five day vacation. From the nice greeting, to the ordering, to the delicious food and the great Greek mocha, the evenings here were almost perfect. We were a bit irritated that the one waiter from whom we didn't want a bill immediately pocketed a generous tip, but what the heck. We had a lovely evening and were very satisfied. A Greek mocha was not cooked with sugar, but after asking twice, a fresh one was made with sugar. So tiny compromises that might be better next time. The food was absolutely top and we are really sad that this restaurant is not near us, value for money is simply top, taste was very tasty! So, make a reservation and let’s go 👍

Service ambience top. Maybe it was due to the crowd of hungry people, but my gyro was very greasy and full of gristle. Not crispy either.

This Greek restaurant Athos is highly recommended. We didn't book in advance and still got a table. The staff is very nice, keep it up LG.

We were here this evening and despite the fact that we didn't have a reservation, we were welcomed and served in a very friendly manner. Even if the waiter was a bit clumsy, it was entertaining for us. Essen deserves its 5 stars and overall we were very happy and would be happy to come back. 👍😁

The food was excellent, the salad as a starter was very tasty. The main course and drinks arrived quickly. The meat was tender and the sauce had the perfect seasoning. The service was very friendly and understanding. The setting was very nice, but it was a bit cold inside. But there is a lot of space inside and out.

Update: You should handle criticism just as well as praise, 2 - 3 bits of fat okay, it was 10 or more There are lots of pieces of fat in the gyros, not for the price, service is okay but not understandable

Service and atmosphere were great. In principle, the food was also good, but in some places the gyros were fried/grilled too black. Otherwise everything was great and the prices are okay too. A reservation definitely makes sense. I was alone and almost got the last available table.

The staff was friendly, accommodating and quickly implemented our wishes. The food was delicious, the portions were more than sufficient and the small special requests we made were also taken care of. We would be happy to come back and can recommend the restaurant without reservation.

Five of us went there spontaneously yesterday without prior notice. We were greeted very friendly and it wasn't a problem that we hadn't pre-ordered. Our little child was well looked after with a coloring book and pencils. The food was delicious and the service was very friendly.

After we had only experienced failures in three other restaurants with our dogs and were almost discouraged on the way home, we tried again at the Athos restaurant to have dinner because we walked past it to get to our accommodation . The restaurant was dismally overcrowded and the staff was visibly overwhelmed. The tables outside were also full to the last seat. The service staff constantly carried the food and drinks to the waiting guests or the empty plates from the satiated guests back to the kitchen and the empty glasses back to the counter. Although all the restaurant staff were busy, a friendly waiter asked us what we wanted. He assigned us a table that had just become available outside. That wasn't possible inside. Someone came quickly and took our order. The food was very good. The gyro was crispy and well seasoned as were the biftheki and the mutton shank. The coleslaw was delicious, something you rarely get in a restaurant. It wasn't soured quickly with vinegar but with lactic acid, which takes a little longer. Despite all the work that had to be done by the Athos staff, every guest was still guaranteed a smile from the service staff. Many thanks to all the staff at Athos, who saved our evening after three disappointments with their very commendable attitude towards their guests. I would happily recommend this restaurant.

We are on vacation in Thale and came across Athos by chance while walking. Since there were still seats available outside, I can't say anything about the restaurant and ambience. The service at the table was super quick at the beginning and the food came just as quickly. The food is a little expensive there, but super tasty. ☆ There is a deduction for the waitress because it was apparently too cold outside to see if anyone else wanted a drink or to pay.

The food was a little bland. I was missing salt everywhere. Opening hours were until 11:30 p.m. We were there from 9:15 p.m. to 10:10 p.m. and were indirectly “asked” to come to the end because we would like to finish work. A no go for me.

You can absolutely trust the very good reviews. The appointment worked out at short notice, great service, great ambience, the starters came quickly and with the right break for the main course. And it was really tasty! Absolute recommendation. We'd love to come back when we're in Thale again!

I definitely recommend this place, it's a little more expensive, but it's totally worth it. We had the rump steak with herb butter, baked potatoes and tzatziki for €30 and the gratinated broccoli with Metaxa sauce for €16. Both were very tasty and were delivered quickly. The service was also very friendly and the atmosphere was right. You can sit outside, but there is also a large indoor area.

It was quite okay. We found it too crowded, the table for four adults was also very small. The rooms are very chic and modern, but you still feel like you're in a canteen. No peace and quiet while eating and everything was very excited. But the food tasted good and the price was right too.

We are on holiday in Thale and had dinner in Athos today. The service was very courteous, the ambience is decorated to a high standard and the atmosphere is cozy. The meal was excellent. Very good cappuccino. As a starter, two salads were on the house. We ordered gyros once and then chicken breast plate. Everything tasted very good and the portions were very generous. Gladly again !

Excellent Greek restaurant. With perfect service and typical Greek hospitality. Parking right in front of the door. In summer you can sit outside. The portions are plentiful and tasty.
