Antoniusmühle Wirtshaus in Mühlhausen/Thüringen

I was at the Antoniusmühle on November 1st, 2025 with my four friends. We received a warm welcome from the two owners. Everything was perfect: service, food, and atmosphere. All in all, a very enjoyable evening for us.

Everything was great. Rustic and cozy.

I was at the Christmas market in Mühlhausen today and thought I'd grab a little something beforehand. I just stumbled across the Antoniusmühle by chance. It's an absolutely fantastic restaurant, highly recommended, the food is great! 👍

From the outside, this restaurant is rather unassuming, but inside it's rustic and cozy. Instead of one large, noisy hall, there are smaller, more intimate booths on different levels, which we found very pleasant. The service was exceptionally friendly, quick, and attentive. My pork knuckle (Eisbein) was superb; I've never had a better one – a huge compliment to the kitchen! The portions are neither too small nor too large, and the prices are absolutely reasonable. We highly recommend it.

The restaurant thrives on its rustic charm, and the service is friendly. Unfortunately, that was the only positive aspect. The food only lives up to restaurant expectations in terms of price; otherwise, the quality remains at cafeteria level. The food consists almost entirely of frozen and convenience products. Hardly any culinary skill was required to prepare these dishes. To make matters worse, the evening was plagued by terrible ventilation in the main room. It was constantly stuffy, and by the end of the evening, the smell of food was quite strong. I cannot recommend this restaurant and would not return.

The food looked a bit unappealing on the plate. It wasn't even piping hot. The server didn't come around very often to take drink orders. Everything just took too long. It seemed like they didn't want to make any money. A shame. The ambiance is absolutely lovely!

We were here as a team with quite a few people. It was lovely and cozy; we had the cellar downstairs to ourselves. A very inviting atmosphere. The service was attentive and very friendly. We had nothing but praise. The food looked beautifully presented and delicious, and it was. We were very happy with the evening, the food, and the friendly service. We'd gladly come back. The price/performance ratio is good.

Absolutely fantastic. There's nothing to complain about. I had beef roulade with dumplings and red cabbage. My wife ordered the vegetarian option without the roulade. It wasn't actually listed on the menu, but it wasn't a problem. That's the kind of service I call good.

A truly exceptional atmosphere, without being dusty or kitschy, very friendly staff, and excellent food. I had a scoopful of meat, which was worth every penny. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely be back!

It's still quiet on this early Sunday evening, but the restaurant, spread over three floors in a building dating back to 1323, fills up quickly; reservations are recommended. There's also a beer garden, which is unfortunately closed despite the late summer temperatures. The menu offers German cuisine. I opt for the "Schaufelfleisch (with bratwurst, fried dumplings, smoked pork, chicken & pork neck, served with sauerkraut & potatoes)." A large and hearty portion, clearly demonstrating that meat still plays a central role in Thuringian cuisine. The quality is upper mid-range, and a Köstritzer Schwarzbier (dark beer) goes well with it. The service is friendly and attentive. Conclusion: A filling meal. We happened upon it by chance. The atmosphere was fantastic, the food was incredibly delicious, and the service was excellent. We'll definitely be back when we're traveling with our motorhome.

Very nice restaurant. Someone has sensitively captured the spirit of the old mill in a restaurant. Simply fantastic! The food, the Jägerschnitzel, was simply superb! We'll definitely be back with lots of friends.

The restaurant is located in an old building and boasts a quaint ambiance. The service was friendly and attentive, and the central location in the city makes it easily accessible. The menu, however, offers a fairly limited selection, and there was a faint smell of French fry grease at our table. The restaurant is mid-range in terms of price.

The best meal we had in Mühlhausen. A superb historic setting, very good food, and good service. There's an inner courtyard. Unfortunately, it wasn't covered, so we could only sit inside when it rained, and smokers had to go outside in the rain. But it's so nice inside that we enjoyed sitting there as well. It's truly quaint. The restaurant offers three menus. A great idea and great prices for them. We opted for individual courses, though. The beef broth is very flavorful and delicious. My salad was a bit unexciting. The rump steak was very tender, as was the roulade.

I would have expected more. From a gastronomic perspective, the potential isn't fully utilized, and the chef is rather dishonorable. The burger was boring and overpriced for what was served, as were the potato wedges, which were also poorly served, with an undefined ready-made garlic sauce. Definitely not worth almost €20, absolutely over the top! The salad isn't particularly creatively seasoned either! I'm disappointed, unfortunately.

Excellent Thuringian cuisine. The picturesque atmosphere is a plus. Highly recommended.

My parents and I went there. The proprietor went out of his way to find us a table on a Saturday evening. The service was excellent. We were asked regularly if we were happy! We wanted another whiskey and were taken straight away, allowing us to choose our own. The food was excellent. The beef was cooked to perfection, medium rare, and the food was presented in a rustic and hearty way. All of this perfectly complemented the ambiance, which was very well conveyed by this rural setting. The prices are absolutely reasonable, and our plates were well-filled. It was a feast! We'd gladly go back.

We went to dinner at the Antonius Mühle with my sister and brother-in-law for my husband's birthday and were absolutely thrilled. The food was super delicious 😋 and plentiful, the staff is top-notch—high praise, and the atmosphere is fantastic. We'll be back. Keep up the good work. 👍👍👍🤣

Very tasty food and beautifully presented.

It was our wedding anniversary and I made a reservation online without much hope of success as it was Mother's Day on the same day. But after a very nice call back from the operator and small timing changes, it worked. Had a nice place and delicious food. Were served friendly and quickly. Everything was absolutely fine. Very happy again.

Rarely have we eaten so well. The staff was nice on the phone when making the reservation, despite the stress on Mother's Day, the service was great, and the food was great!!! Keep it up.

Reserved a table for the evening and got it. The service was first class, tables were assigned and requests were asked at regular intervals without seeming intrusive, great. Drinks are cool, food was hot, freshly prepared and delicious. A clean ambience that also has the charm of coziness made our stay a feel-good moment. Highly recommend the Antoniusmühle.

Full marks. The dishes on offer are very tasty and beautifully rustic. The portions are really big for a reasonable price. The service is friendly and the ambience supports the concept of the restaurant.

Great restaurant in a very old building, we felt very comfortable. The staff was very nice and accommodating, and our dogs were also allowed in. The portions of the meal were very large, not full marks, my mushrooms were too greasy for me. Would go again and again.

I had an excellent starter "Mustard Soup" with salmon. Was simply outstanding. Then the melting pork knuckle with sauerkraut and potatoes. It was great all together. I really liked the atmosphere. Music was OK, toilet clean. Staff very friendly. I would love to come back and can recommend the restaurant. Five out of five stars are absolutely deserved.

We absolutely loved the rustic ambiance of the restaurant. It was our first time there, for lunch. The staff gave us a very friendly welcome. The menu leaves nothing to be desired in terms of home-style cooking. There are also vegetarian dishes available. The food was outstanding. The steak was absolutely spot-on and couldn't have been prepared better. We'll definitely be back soon and can recommend the Antoniusmühle to everyone.

We had dinner here today...Very, very nice, rustic restaurant with very good cuisine...can be recommended 100%. The landlord was so nice and showed us the other rooms, e.g. the vaulted cellar, compliments on what we have achieved and good luck in the future...

We happened upon this place while strolling through town and, after being very kindly informed that we could bring our dog, reserved a table for the evening. The ambiance is beautiful. The service is excellent. The food is delicious. Highly recommended!

Best classic German restaurant in MHL. We have been here many times and will continue to do so.

We came to this inn very spontaneously today. The cozy atmosphere immediately invited us to linger. A nice gentleman assigned us seats. Things only got better after that. The menu is perfectly tailored to a good pub. The food was very rich and incredibly tasty! The waitress joked about our small stomachs and lovingly packed up the rest for us. An absolute recommendation!

We were here for the first time. We were very enthusiastic about everything. The ambivalent the food and the service. If we vacation here again we would only go here. I can only recommend it 😅👍🏻

The food tasted very good. The service was very friendly and responded to personal requests.

We were invited here to a larger celebration. The ambience is great. There was even a fireplace. Really to feel good. Our waitresses, two young women, were friendly and really tried to ensure that drinks were replenished as quickly as possible. But ... The barman, on the other hand, did not take questions and/or criticism seriously, felt attacked and even became mushy. Unfortunately, the food was terrible and far too overpriced for the prices. For example - the roulades tasted like nothing, the red cabbage was very vinegary, the chicken and fish were bone dry. Some food and dessert were forgotten, so some people didn't eat until everyone else had finished. Conclusion: No longer recommended. Really a shame.

A quaint restaurant with more than a hint of the Middle Ages. You sit between old half-timbering and rough stone and plaster, with everyday utensils from days gone by lovingly arranged around you. The food suits the time and space, everything is fresh, tasty and served in a friendly manner.

The Antoniusmühle is definitely worth a visit. A rustic restaurant, lovingly decorated, cozy atmosphere, everything is just right here. The menu is good, home-style. The prices are a little higher, but justified. The service person, a lady, was alone. She professionally managed the entire guest room and it was full. Nobody had to wait, she didn't get hectic, she always remained friendly. Although a constant back and forth, up stairs, down stairs. Every restaurateur wants a service person like that. Class! Now about the food. There was a schnitzel with fried egg and fries and slices of pork neck in onion-mushroom sauce, plus two Thuringian dumplings. The portion is huge. The price is around 20 euros each. We each had a beer and we were satisfied. A recommendation!

Die Roulade geschmacksneutral und getrickst mit zuviel Schweinefleischfüllung. Thüringer Kloß aus fertiger Kloßmasse. Die anderen Essen leider auch. Sah ansprechend aus aber das war es. Schade.

Urige Atmosphäre- gutes Essen Nach einem späten Termin in Mühlhausen haben nach einem Restaurant gesucht. Laut Tripadvisor sollte das Lokal am Mittwoch Abend geschlossen haben. Gut dass wir uns nicht darauf verlassen haben und auf der Homepage geschaut haben. Eine sehr freundliche und zuvorkommende Bedienung. Das Essen, ein Schnitzel und eine Pfanne waren sehr sehr lecker und auch heiß. Nichts aus dem Tiefkühler! Wir waren sehr zufrieden und kommen mit Sicherheit wieder.

Long waiting time, over-salted soup, goose leg was not edible because the meat was too tough. Really a shame and also annoying. Definitely not planning another visit there.

Beautiful rooms. We had to wait a very, very long time for the food, 1.5 hours. Unfortunately the food wasn't even good, the soup was totally over salted, the goose leg was hard as leather, the salmon was totally overcooked and the spinach leaves came out of the freezer (bubbly), gray instead of green. The service was friendly. Card payment is only possible with an EC card, it is not advertised, this has to be changed these days because it will soon no longer be available!
