I've been here several times now. It's always delicious. Everyone is super friendly!

The best brewery in the area. The lamb steaks are fantastic. The staff is super friendly, and the drinks arrived quickly. The value for money is outstanding.

We held our wedding reception at the Old Frechen Train Station. The rail bus, which can accommodate up to 50 people, is the perfect location. The service was very attentive, the food and the house-brewed beer at Pittermännchen were delicious, the atmosphere was great, and the guests were happy. We are overjoyed and very satisfied and can only recommend Frechen Train Station. Always a great place for dinner or just for a house beer.

A wonderful ambiance and a very fine menu. Gourmets will definitely get their money's worth here. Great, attentive service!

We were recently invited to a birthday party at the Alter Bahnhof Frechen (Old Train Station Frechen). Our enthusiasm for the food at the Alter Bahnhof Frechen (Old Train Station Frechen) was rather limited. I've known the restaurant since its renovation and opening. I used to enjoy going there, but now I give it a wide berth. The reason for this is that the concept has become very meager. The portions and the quality of the food have unfortunately become very poor. Everything seems to be designed for speed, and the food hardly tastes good anymore. In my opinion, it's mass processing without much rhyme or reason. I would very much appreciate it if the management, Ralph and Thomas, could rethink and improve the concept and the quality of the food. That would be very welcome. Best regards, Andy

Very tasty homemade beer, but that's about it. The steak sauces, apart from the garlic sauce, are completely forgettable, both in terms of taste and consistency (thankfully, it's served in a bowl). The meat, whether beef, pork, or kangaroo, was unfortunately very dry on several visits. The service is quite fast, but sometimes a bit inattentive, but it also seems to depend on the day.

The place is quite nice outside and inside. They have air conditioning inside and it was quite pleasant. I found the service to be very friendly, but the portions are quite small and the beef came unsalted. I also tried the pork and it was completely dry.. it was like eating rubber. I know it is quite a popular place, but I found it quite overrated, to be honest.

Overall, good 👍 Food and drinks arrive quickly. Prices have been adjusted, but portions are really big enough. 👍

It was way too warm today. But the great food, friendly service, wonderful atmosphere, and good friends made the evening perfect.

Unfortunately, we can only give it 5 stars. We ate at the old train station three times during our vacation. We highly recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere is fantastic. You can't do much better in an old building. Everything is very clean and well-maintained. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. There were no long waits. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely eat at the old train station again.

Despite having a reservation, we were asked to vacate the table after an hour (with food still on the plate). The food was very good.

We dined there three times during our assembly. I think that's saying a lot. The food was great, the portions very generous but just right for hungry tradesmen. I don't even need to start on the Finchen and Lokstoff. Excellent!!! No matter what day of the week we were there, the restaurant was always more than busy. Super friendly service and very, very fast. We'd love to come back.

We were there yesterday with a small birthday party of about 10 people. One member of our group received their food 30 minutes late. The food was substandard and inedible, so we returned large portions. Even the server admitted that the food was unappetizing while cleaning up. Even the advertised "salad bar" consisted of a whopping 8-10 ingredients. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

The in-house brewery is a highlight: The beer "Lockstoff" is simply fantastic – fresh, drinkable, and highly recommended! The beer garden is huge and beautifully designed, with two original old railway carriages as special eye-catchers. The decor is done with great attention to detail and creates a truly cozy atmosphere. The staff is exceptionally friendly, attentive, and always in a good mood – you immediately feel welcome. The food? Top-notch! Large portions, very tasty steaks, cooked to perfection. The rest of the menu also leaves nothing to be desired. In conclusion: If you're looking for good food, great beer, and a unique location, this is the place for you. We'll definitely be back! 🍺🍽️🚂

We came to get some German beer after a friend's wedding function nearby, and were warmly greeted by the staff. Excellent service, very efficient and always served with a smile. My German is non-existent but they were extremely accommodating and were able to explain the choices in English. The atmosphere was friendly and had good vibes. I didn't have anything to eat having had lunch at my friend's wedding but you could see everyone else in the restaurant thoroughly enjoying their meals. I was contemplating on having a second lunch based on the look and smell of the food. My phone battery died as I had forgotten to bring an EU mains adapter, so the staff kindly agreed to charge my phone so I could contact my friends to see where they were. Their beer - all brewed in-house and a great selection - Lokstoff, Finchen and Saison-Bier. Saison-Bier being their season beer and it changing throughout the year. I visited in May and the seasonal beer was Maibock which was a darker shade with honey notes and reminded me of some lovely ales. I will definitely be dropping by here again the next time I'm in Cologne and would highly recommend. Thank you staff at Alter Bahnhof Frenchen.

Exceeded all expectations. Super nostalgic setting, top selection of food and drinks. A variety of waiters. You can have the drink ready in under 1 minute. You didn't have to wait long for the food either. Perfectly grilled juicy steak with my favorite fries, sauce and a classic salad mix from the buffet. All in all a great visit. I was there for the second time with a few friends. The first time I was noticeably disappointed by the ambience and the quality of what was on offer, but things like that can happen, I thought, so don't judge too quickly. Unfortunately, yesterday all the negative impressions from the first visit were confirmed. The operating staff was positive, they were friendly and prompt. Otherwise, unfortunately, a total failure! The atmosphere has something of a mix between a warehouse and a miner's canteen. A noise level like that of a shipyard makes normal conversation virtually impossible if the hall is busy. Unfortunately, there are no measures to reduce unwanted sound reflections. It's probably just a matter of quick feeding. Accordingly, you sit quite closely at the tables. There's only one thing you can say about food: I have rarely had such tasteless and carelessly prepared food. Except in one restaurant in Idar-Oberstein, but that’s another story… The salad buffet is basically a good thing, the salad ingredients also looked quite fresh. However, the chef seems to make it a point to offer all the components (tomatoes, leaf lettuce, coleslaw, carrots, cucumbers, beans) in a completely flavorless version. The term “cut-resistant water” also takes on a whole new meaning here! The two salad dressings on offer also differ primarily in their color nuances: whitish and cream. Probably fresh from the kitchen from the Tetra Pac. Even with the so-called brewery steaks with pepper sauce you couldn't really speak of enjoyment. Visually, these looked quite good with their picturesque grill marks, but the meat was so dry that even generous amounts of “pepper sauce” made the meal neither easier nor more palatable. With the pepper sauce, the Tetra Pac impression was even more pronounced; apart from a certain spiciness, the product lacked any taste of natural ingredients. Last but not least, the matchstick-thin “stick-shaped sticks” were also quite dry and lacked any taste of the original potato product. The whole thing can't be covered up with plates full to the brim, I let most of it go back anyway. I politely declined the offer to have the rest packed. My wife would have thrown the stuff away immediately anyway... For me one thing is certain: twice and never again. At the moment there is a lot of complaining in the catering industry, taxes, minimum wage and shopping are all so expensive. That's why prices are now being raised in areas where people are wondering who will still be willing to pay that in the future. And then, as in this case, not receiving adequate compensation in the form of delicious food. This way you only saw on your own branch! I also can't understand the many positive reviews of this restaurant. Either they were bought or people had their taste buds amputated at McDonalds & Co. But since more and more people are now unable to cook for themselves, how can they tell the difference between good food and bad food?

A big compliment at this point for an incomparable, always good and smart service. Today again particularly noticeable staff power, in the wonderful weather, with the beer garden at full capacity. Fast and very friendly service, great organization and staffing. Short waiting time at the courts. Compliments to the entire team, service, kitchen, management. That's how it works! Some restaurateurs should learn something from the Old Train Station in order to significantly improve their service. There is no bad mood here due to listless staff or a bad working atmosphere; everyone at the Old Station is motivated and works hand in hand. Something like that is very nice to see and it keeps you in a good mood. Simply strong, keep it up 👏

Rustic building with a large beer garden, attentive and friendly staff, very meat-oriented dishes with large portions. Vegetarian dishes included baked potatoes or vegan schnitzel and, seasonally, an asparagus dish (optionally with vegan schnitzel). The kangaroo steak is interesting. Otherwise more classic with pork, beef or lamb steak. Salad from the buffer. Definitely recommended.

Top value for money 👌 The portions were very good and the food was extremely tasty. For the kangaroo fillets, 3 pieces are enough. Also recommended was the salad bar, where you could put together your own starter salad. The atmosphere at the old train station is well located. You can also watch one or two trains

The only downside to the meal was the quantity. 22€ for a portion that would make any seasoned lumberjack burst. You immediately feel guilty if you don't succeed because the quality is simply convincing. The beer costs around €5, but tastes excellent. Especially as a local brewery, there are unique types of beer that are convincing. The waiters and owners are super polite and personable. It's easy to be persuaded to drink several beers. The beer garden impresses with its cosiness and the sanitary facilities are clean and modern. Definitely worth a detour. But bring enough money with you, otherwise you might end up drinking more than you can afford ;)

We had dinner with 10 people on Monday evening, we had a small room to ourselves and that was really great 👍🏻 We had different dishes, steak, lamb fillet and pork. Everything was super tasty and everyone was very happy. The service was super nice, attentive and it just flowed 🤗🤩 The beer was also very tasty, a completely different taste 🍻

There are actually two sides here. On the one hand: The location is very attractive, although very, very loud. As the restaurant fills up, conversation becomes increasingly difficult and very tiring over the course of the evening. (at least indoors). Maybe a few acoustic panels would help here? The service is very friendly and attentive. Food topic: We ate there several times with several people and always ordered different dishes. The meat - regardless of whether it was lamb, pork or kangaroo - was actually tough and fibrous, which indicates poor quality of the meat and poor preparation. The fried potatoes were soggy and extra requests (e.g. bacon with the potatoes) cannot be taken into account. Explanation from the staff: This is a pre-made finished product out of the bag. There is also a lack of spice. Unfortunately there was no pepper or salt at the table for seasoning. You can ask the staff, but there are not enough spreaders available when the capacity is high. When the food is returned, as it is simply unreasonable to see what kind of finished products are served and, above all, in what quality, the dish is neither taken off the bill nor is there any other form of accommodation. Only a sorry from the service with the explanation that it was mostly finished products and that there was actually no trained chef. Incredible! Conclusion from several visits and experiences at Frechen train station: Delicious, in-house beer, friendly, honest service staff, unfortunately food is a no-go and the price is outrageous for what you actually get on your plate in terms of quality. We'd love to have a delicious, house-made beer again when the opportunity arises. After several attempts and explanations from the staff - unfortunately not anymore. It's really a shame for the location with such possibilities.

I didn't eat. There were two of us, unannounced and there was a table for us in the full brewery. It was.... Cozy, the food around us looked good, there were a lot of good-humored people around us. The evening was great for us too. Highly recommended!

Excellent food, large portions, delicious beer, great atmosphere and very good service

There were 6 of us there and unfortunately we had a table in the back that was a bit awkward as it was always draughty. The back part is a large hall and the noise level is too high (if full, too loud). The portions are huge but you can also order smaller versions of all dishes, which is a great advantage. Very nice service that is very attentive.

The ambience is rustic yet modern, the food and large portions of steaks are super tasty (also applies to the home-brewed beer!) and the service staff is more open and warm than we have seen in a long time. Very cozy beer garden in Frechen. We brew our own brew here and the attractant is highly recommended. Depending on the season, there are even seasonal types of beer, such as the home-brewed Weizen. The food portions here are HUGE. Each dish is also available as a children's plate, which is still very, very large. You can put together your own starters/side salad at the salad buffet. The service here is super attentive. After ordering, the drinks are at the table within a very short time. The drinks and food prices are more than fair. The Altes Brauhaus is very popular, which is why reservations should definitely be made on weekends.

The location is great, easy to reach, and the atmosphere is simple. The service is friendly, but sometimes a bit overwhelmed at peak times. The beer is delicious, but sometimes there is a long wait long wait for a new drink. If we go there again, it will only be to drink a beer. We won't eat there anymore. We don't go there often because we usually have another local bar. My son and I were there in 2022. He had chicken breast fillet and I had brewhouse steaks. Its flesh was so dried out and hard that it was almost impossible to cut, let alone chew. Mine wasn't much better either. If I hadn't had sauce it would have stuck in my neck. I left one of the two steaks on the plate and ate the fries. My son ate half a chicken breast fillet out of 2. He just said "Dad, my teeth and my whole mouth hurt..." The waitress's only question was whether she could take the plates away. No question was asked if something was wrong because so much went back. When paying, I tested how people react when you mention it. Shrug, nothing more. We tried again in 2023. We both had breaded chicken schnitzel. The breading was so full of fat that we couldn't finish it again. Another consequence was that I had stomach upset and heartburn all evening. A week ago we started one last attempt. Again brewhouse steaks for me and chicken breast fillet for my son. Mine was dried out again and as a result tough. My son's is again greasy to no end. For me this has nothing to do with good food, it's just mass production. For the two meals and 4 drinks (3 large, 1 small) the two of us spent around €55. No thanks, so much money for this quality. That was definitely the last time.

The Alter Bahnhof Frechen is a great restaurant, in a station building that is over 100 years old. The home-brewed beers are an absolute must. The grilled food is rich, tasty and great value for money, accompanied by friendly and fast service. The large beer garden invites you to linger. Absolutely recommended for every visit to Frechen!

Great setting, great food, great service.

I was in the restaurant today. At the table I had the badly moldy tomato from the salad buffet. The waitress just said that she would let us know inside. I pointed out to her that we had lost our appetite for salad, that I didn't want to eat mine anymore and that my wife wouldn't get any more. There was no further response, not even when paying. When I wanted to pack my (not yet cut) steak, she was obviously annoyed and called a colleague to take care of it. I would somehow have expected at least a discount, a dessert or coffee, some kind of accommodation. Since this didn't happen, I'm writing this review. In principle it's a shame because the location itself was very nice.

Tipp vorne weg. Wenn zu mehreren dort sind und getrennt bezahlen möchten, machen sie sich ihren eigenen "Deckel". Chaos beim Bezahlen vorprogrammiert, selbst wenn sie alles korrekt dem Kellner aufzählen. Das Ambiente ist entsprechend der Zeit und der Vergangenheit des Ortes stimmig. Das kredenzte und vor Ort gebraute 🍺 ist Geschmacksache. Die Speisen aus der Küche kommen sehr schnell. Unser Fleisch war eher arg trocken geraten. Ein Kellner vergriff sich ordentlich im Ton, als er aufmerksam gemacht wurde das man Vorspeise und Hauptgericht nicht gleichzeitig serviert bekommen möchte. Seine Kollegen versuchten die Situation zu retten, das Geschmäkle bleibt aber. In Summe: Man kann dort hingehen. Wir werden es aber nicht mehr versuchen.
