Alte Scheune in Neckargemünd

We had a wonderful meal in an authentic German inn. Lots of wood inside, tablecloths on the tables—we all know the feeling. But back to the food, it was excellent: nice, large portions, thin schnitzels (two per plate), and delicious fried potatoes. In short, highly recommended.

Hot food with a wide selection of dishes. The food was good for a group of 12. We didn't have to wait very long. Portions were large. We arrived at 2:30 pm.

How amazing is this lumberjack steak with Hackerpschorr! A flavor explosion for meat lovers. Makes a man happy. I was here after the funeral of a sailor's wife. Now my aura is back in harmony. 😊

July 24, 2025: 4 stars for everything 🌟, that's for the last time, there's more to come today. October 31, 2025: We were very satisfied again, I had the Palatinate-style steak, my wife had the chili pork neck, super delicious. Afterwards, a boat trip or a walk along the Neckar River.

Found it by chance. The restaurant was full, but we were allowed to sit at the bar. We were more than pleasantly surprised by the relaxed yet professional atmosphere. The venison goulash with red cabbage and spaetzle was delicious, beautifully presented, and very reasonably priced. My wife's bread dumplings with salad were superb! We'll be back. Great restaurant!

The service was good, but unfortunately it was very busy that day, so mistakes can happen. I received two shoe soles. Otherwise, everything was fine. It would be nice to have more regional beers than just one type.

The pumpkin soup is so delicious that you'll want to eat it again and again. Seriously, it's a delicious dish. The restaurant is often empty, and the restrooms are clean. We'll be happy to come back. The prices are very reasonable for such a wonderful dish. The only thing the dish was missing was croutons or bread with the soup. I would have really appreciated that, and it would have gone very well with it. So please add some bread or croutons to this dish.

We were here at short notice. We only got a table outside, but we had blankets and a super hot meal. The service was friendly and very quick, and the food was incredibly delicious.

The owner is very friendly. You should make a reservation, but even without one, they'll always check to see if there's a free spot. Highly recommended.

The exterior appearance wasn't misleading. Great restaurant, old, quaint, and cozy. The staff was very attentive, unobtrusive, and friendly. All I can say about the food is excellent, no matter what you order. Hardly any plates left on them were returned to the neighboring table. Just a great spot for a drink mid-bike ride, a shady spot on the Neckar River. Standard German cuisine: sausages, sausages, and sausages. There's a sort of shed (Scheune) where you can order and take your own food; there's no table service. Seating is like picnic benches. Cash only; card payments are not accepted.

We were very satisfied with everything. The waiter was super friendly, as was the waitress. The food was excellent. I was interested in the restaurant, so I went to the counter and asked a young woman how old the restaurant was. Neither she nor anyone else could answer the question. The unfriendly young woman explained that she wasn't that old. However, I hadn't asked. This woman was the damper on this lovely evening.

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. While the location is great and the staff very friendly, the food was borderline awful. The fries were rancid and underseasoned, the schnitzel was tough, the salad was brown, the spaetzle was dry, and everything was overly covered in onions. All in all, unfortunately, not recommended.

The food is so-so. The bread served with the Palatinate Saumagen looks and tastes like it came from a discount store. I don't expect that from a restaurant in this price range.

Arrived unannounced, but still managed to get room for two. The restaurant was busy. A relatively long wait, about 50 minutes. But then a very tasty meal, typical of a country inn. Very generous portions, very good value for money. Highly recommended

Rustic inn near the banks of the Neckar. Wide range of options, including for vegetarians and even vegans. Friendly service. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio for the veggie dishes doesn't match at all. I was very hungry and ordered bread dumplings with mushrooms and salad. When I saw the portion for a whopping €17.20, I was very frustrated. On a medium-sized plate were two dumplings not quite the size of a tennis ball with a handful of mushrooms in sauce and a small portion of mixed salad. Suggestion for improvement: Serve five dumplings, more mushrooms and the salad in a bowl. Then the price is justified and the guest is satisfied instead of frustrated.

A real highlight! The food was incredibly tasty - rustic, home-style cooking with huge portions that saved us dinner. The ambience in the lovingly restored half-timbered house is rustic and inviting. Particularly noteworthy: the music – really good rock that fit the mood perfectly. The waiter was very friendly, attentive and communicated a small error openly and sympathetically. All in all a successful visit – thank you for the great service!

A few days ago we were cycling in the evening when we became hungry. So it was time to take a break at the inn. A table in the beer garden was free. A friendly waitress immediately came to take the order. Everything wonderful. After about 7 minutes the requested beer arrived. To my disappointment, a good sip was forgotten when filling the glass. It's a shame actually. I thought back and forth about whether I should say something. But then I forgot about it. When it came to food, everything was perfect, taste, appearance, etc. Basically a very clear recommendation for the inn and still 1 point deducted for half the beer.

While the male waitresses can seem a bit harsh at first, after several visits it becomes clear that this is just a facade - everyone is very friendly and helpful in their own, charming, rustic way. The food impresses every time: reliably homemade, down-to-earth and simply delicious. For us as people from Neckargemünd, the Old Barn is an integral part of our culinary homeland, and we always enjoy coming here. A very nice host, despite the full reservation and small atmosphere, he was still able to accommodate us. We only had an hour to eat but it was worth it. It was very tasty, if you are in Neckargemünd for a short trip it is highly recommended.

I like the place very much. Service is good, the beer too, sometimes you can't find a seat, but it's your own fault, you have to reserve in advance :)

It's a shame that I have to give one star. In fact, we had reserved a table for 6 people, 2 of whom were children, for today at 7:45 p.m. Our reservation was also confirmed over the phone. We arrived there on time, hungry and looking forward to a nice family evening and were actually turned away. This is an absolute no-go.

The “Alte Scheune” restaurant impresses with its quaint and rustic ambience. The cozy furnishings create a pleasant atmosphere that invites you to linger. Unfortunately, the kitchen could not fully support this harmonious overall picture. The venison goulash turned out to be a disappointment: the sauce was heavily juniper-heavy, but otherwise lacking in taste. It was served with Brussels sprouts, which were okay in themselves, but were covered in a very thick, fatty sauce. Trying to combine different flavors on one plate seemed overloaded and not well thought out. A reduced approach – perhaps a good, simple goulash with an aromatic sauce and spaetzle – would certainly have been a better fit and would have enhanced the dish. The service was quick, but not very friendly. The rude service didn't leave a particularly hospitable impression and further spoiled the experience. Overall, the “Old Barn” thrives on its charming ambience, but the cuisine and service could be significantly improved with more focus and attention. Less experimentation and more clarity on the plate would be a step in the right direction.
