The “Alte Scheune” restaurant impresses with its quaint and rustic ambience. The cozy furnishings create a pleasant atmosphere that invites you to linger. Unfortunately, the kitchen could not fully support this harmonious overall picture. The venison goulash turned out to be a disappointment: the sauce was heavily juniper-heavy, but otherwise lacking in taste. It was served with Brussels sprouts, which were okay in themselves, but were covered in a very thick, fatty sauce. Trying to combine different flavors on one plate seemed overloaded and not well thought out. A reduced approach – perhaps a good, simple goulash with an aromatic sauce and spaetzle – would certainly have been a better fit and would have enhanced the dish. The service was quick, but not very friendly. The rude service didn't leave a particularly hospitable impression and further spoiled the experience. Overall, the “Old Barn” thrives on its charming ambience, but the cuisine and service could be significantly improved with more focus and attention. Less experimentation and more clarity on the plate would be a step in the right direction.

We discovered the Old Barn by chance because we were looking for a nice, home-style restaurant for a family reunion in Neckargemünd with an overnight stay. It's really cozy there, the service is great and the food is just as good as expected. All in all a great evening for us - thank you very much to the entire team!

We were there this afternoon and were VERY happy about this spontaneous visit. Everything fits together the way it is. The sausage salad was all but... that's great service... the chef made a portion. Where else is there something like that please.....thank you, thank you, thank you. The service was relaxed and everything was somehow not a problem. Very relaxed, relaxed and really great. The guests were also really polite and communicative among themselves. Extremely pleasant. Food was super tasty. I ordered the matjes and it was sooooooooo brilliantly prepared. I haven't had it yet. We were thoroughly thrilled. Down-to-earth local where everything is harmonious as it is. The warm food was hearty and tasty, good value for money. I had a salad plate with schnitzel strips, which was a disaster and not even remotely worth the 16.90 euros. A mixture of cabbage, carrot and lettuce strips, not dressed. On top, a blob of fatty ready-made dressing that hasn't reached the bottom layer. I added the dressing again. A few strips of schnitzel on top. I really can't recommend it...

Great rustic restaurant, with a fitting rustic ambience and very good food. We were thrilled and will definitely come back! Update: unfortunately it wasn't so good on the second visit. The food was OK (except the salad was great), rump steak wasn't medium rare, fried potatoes weren't well seasoned. Rather bland. Unfortunately, service wasn't that good either.

Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und durften uns einen Tisch im Freien aussuchen. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam und flink. Die Getränke kamen schnell , der Beilagensalat zu 2 Gerichte kam kurz darauf und das Essen welches gleichzeitig nach ca. 20 min. kam, sah sehr appetitlich aus. Alles war geschmacklich sehr gut und frisch zubereitet. Wir hatten Käsespätzle, Chillischnitzel und Semmelknödel mit Waldpilzen. Wir würden wiederkommen wenn wir wieder in der Nähe sind und können das Restaurant uneingeschränkt empfehlen

Very good food nearby with a small terrace overlooking the nice old buildings in town and a parking lot right on the waterfront of the river. You can see all the way to the other river bank. Watching passing boats, kayaks, ships, etc. can be a fun activity for kids.

My wife's asparagus salad was also overpriced for the quantity. My friend's Swiss sausage salad was a classic sausage salad with a few strips of cheese on top. Still testing it in a few weeks.

Even though we arrived without a reservation, we still got a seat at the counter among an illustrious group. We were warmly welcomed by the people present there. By the way, dogs are allowed, which was definitely important for our little schnauzer and us! The food was exactly what we wanted and imagined, and the service was very friendly. The food came out of the kitchen quite quickly after ordering. All the dishes that came out of the kitchen looked plentiful and tasty and were, without exception, beautifully presented. In the end, the math worked out. Sure, everything has become more expensive now, but for the portions and how we liked it, the price was without exception reasonable! Card payment is also possible. We would certainly like to come back again.

The absolute biggest impudence is to sell two supermarket Maultaschen with a handful of salad for €15!!! I would like to emphasize that I am also a self-employed restaurateur. When we talked to the guests at the next table, they told us that the portions had become smaller and smaller in recent years, but the prices were higher. Of course, I also had to adjust the prices in my restaurant to the economic situation. But putting less food on your plate at the same time clearly shows greed for money and no respect for the customer. This led to a conversation with the boss, which was somewhat biased. These prejudices were not only confirmed but exceeded. Apart from his extremely unfriendly manner, he stammered contradictory attempts at explanations. The statement that had the most lack of style was “so many things here have to be made fresh every day”. Dear reader, NOTHING happens in this restaurant!!! freshly prepared. Because of my job, I know the range of all ready-made gastro products, their appearance and their taste. This restaurateur is one of the reasons why our industry is in crisis and here the guest is clearly being ripped off and lied to. Today we returned to the Old Barn after about four years and were extremely positively surprised. The food is now in a completely different league, we suspect a change of tenant or a new chef? Very tasty Greek schnitzel, no pressed meat, great special sheep's cheese filling and overall very attractively presented. The same applies to the excellent Tafelspitz. There were four of us and we all got our food hot at the same time. Of course, it tastes particularly good in the rustic, nostalgic atmosphere that you can enjoy in the Old Barn. Prices are not cheap, but appropriate for the quality and generous portion size. We'd love to come back!
