Spontaneously got a table when the old town was full (culture night). Food came quickly and was tasty. Staff nice and attentive. I can only recommend it.

Went there for the first time and we weren't disappointed. Dad's food was on the table quickly and still fresh and tasty. We'd love to come back. Portions could be a little more generous.

We were here for dinner on New Year's Eve (23). The table was ordered in advance. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and appears well-kept and rustic. The table was reserved at 8:00 p.m. From the moment we arrived, everything seemed somewhat hectic and somehow as if you weren't welcome. The food came just a few minutes after we ordered, which was a surprise to all of us. As a joke we said that we were probably in the Bavarian fast food restaurant. The food could be described as convenience food. Apart from the fried potatoes and the meat, everything else was probably from Homann & Co.'s buckets. Shortly before the end of the workday, these buckets were even driven past us :-). I wouldn't expect anything different from a chip shop, but somehow I would expect it from a Bavarian restaurant. Especially since you've had an almost identical dish "onion roast" several times in Bavaria Rump steak with fried onions, beer sauce and fried potatoes with bacon and onions, coleslaw (33.80 euros) was ordered and eaten. The rump steak was medium but with tendons. I would still like to give the food a solid 3 stars. It was OK, but nothing more. What was disappointing was the service. Unfriendly & inhospitable. Sure: It was New Year's Eve and it's certainly not that easy to keep staff available. But dear “Alte Posthalterei team”, next time you should say that you don’t have any free tables. From start to finish it seemed like we weren't welcome, so we could have skipped the visit. Status August 24- Response to the reaction of the management of the Alte Posthalterei. I just read your answer today and even after more than 7 months I feel my criticism has been confirmed. It probably won't be the fault of the staff, but rather the management. But maybe that's the reason why the "Alte Posthalterei" isn't that important to many Osnabrück residents, which is actually a shame. I would then put a star for your handling of criticism.

We search for an original German restaurant for a Schnitzel and draft beer. We found it and the food was fine and as it should be. In door seating was close but it looked very new and well renovated. A good place to visit when a german meal is needed.

Ambience and service were great. The portion sizes, however, left a lot to be desired. The grill plate for 22.50 basically consisted only of coleslaw. That only applies to the grill plate, I can't judge the rest.

We reserved a table here because the other places were all full. We were very satisfied. The pub is nicely decorated and quite cozy. The guests are well distributed so that you can chat in peace. Prices for meals start at €20.50. Overall, highly recommended.

Bavarian specialties very tasty.

The restaurant has a lot of charm in terms of ambience, but unfortunately the schnitzels (Viennese and the house's own) weren't really convincing... the side dishes in particular were unseasoned and didn't really appear to be fried and the bacon was unemotionally supplemented. But the meat itself was quite okay. The service was sometimes friendly, but unfortunately you felt a bit forgotten over the time. Overall, I found the visit a bit disappointing, as it seemed really promising and I was expecting a bit more given the price.

Great place to eat and/or enjoy a couple of beers. Staff is polite and friendly, the restaurant's interior is cosy with Bavarian atmosphere, meals are tasty and beer to our liking. Meal prices are affordable. It has been a whole since I tasted such a nice goulash in a restaurant! We had a bier goulash and a chicken snitzel, both meals were excellent. Don't forget to try a local liqueur! It was our first time in Osnabrück and in this restaurant, we already know we must come back. I highly recommend this restaurant for dining or having a few pints here.

Food was completely cold. Sauerkraut and the bacon cubes were gray. The spaetzle were as pale as... The salad was ridiculous. My 5 year old son does it better. Sorry. But I know what I'm talking about

The food is very good and the prices are appropriate for today's times. The staff is very friendly. Alte Posthalterei is a good address for Osnabrück.

A pleasant traditional Bavarian restaurant with beautiful old fashioned decor, excellent food, and friendly service. Cozy, comfortable, and delicious. The Schweinshaxen was perfect... crispy parts on the outside and tender on the inside. Very nice sauerkraut and potatoes too. And of course plenty of beer to choose from.

Waren hier zum Grünkohl essen. War alles top. Service war super, Getränke und Essen waren lecker. Keine zu langen Wartezeiten trotzdem vollem Laden Freitagabend.

Räume waren recht kalt. Das Essen vollkommen überteuert für die angebotene Qualität. Das Essen kam definitiv aus der TK, Convenience Food der einfachsten Sorte. Das Kassler zum Grünkohl sah schon unappetitlich aus und war trocken. Die Bratkartoffeln unter aller Kanone, habe ich noch nie so fad und labberig gesehen ( die Bratkartoffeln sahen im übrigen bei weitem nicht so aus, wie auf dem Foto einer anderen Rezensentin „Katja“,) . Ich habe selten so schlecht gegessen. Service ging, obgleich ich ein zweites Bier mehrfach ordern musste und so während des Essens kein Getränk hatte. Bestimmt nicht wieder.

Die Alte Posthalterei hat wie immer keine Wünsche offen gelassen. Vom Empfang, über den Service bis hin zum Essen war es ein sehr schöner Aufenthalt. Egal ob deftiges Essen wie auch leichteres Essen wie Salate, alles schmeckt sehr gut. Einzige kleine Bitte für das nächste Mal: bitte den Gastraum besser heizen, es war dieses Mal ein wenig zu kühl. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.

Deftiges Essen, lecker Bier, wer's bayrisch mag, ist hier gut aufgehoben.

Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis war mehr als gut! Der Service war super nett und zuvorkommend. Auch das Ambiente war sehr gemütlich und schön, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen bestimmt bald wieder! 🙏😊

Das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und ist regelmäßig hergekommen, um zu fragen ob alles in Ordnung wäre. Das Essen kam relativ zügig, obwohl es Samstag Abend war. Wir waren begeistert und kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

Ongelooflijk lekker gegeten in een prachtig authentiek Duitse sfeer. Ondanks de drukte kregen we de schnitzels snel en de bijbestelde champignons waren enorm groot en superlekker. Porties zijn meer dan genoeg, we moesten een beetje laten staan. De rabarber limonade was ook top!

Am Tisch hatten wir Steak, Schweinshaxe, Käsespätzle, Kassler und Wurst mit Grünkohl und alle waren sehr zufrieden...sehr gute Küche und das Ambiente ist auch sehr entspannt

An einem Samstag Abend war es normal besucht, das Essen hat fast 1 Stunde gedauert bis es kam und war leider teilweise nur lau warm. Das kalte Essen ging zurück weil die Spätzle leider kalt waren. Viele Gerichte gab es nur mit Bratkartoffeln und Speck. Vegetarisch nur zwei Gerichte. Alles in allem ganz ok, nur schade das das mit dem Essen nicht so gut war.

Super freundlicher Service und ein leckeres Abendessen. 😋

Zünftig und lecker…. Wir saßen zu zweit draussen im Biergarten. Sowohl das Essen als auch der Service waren sehr gut. Auch Sonderwünsche beim Dessert wurden problemlos abgebildet. Also, wer es zünftig bzw. bayrisch mag, ist hier definitiv richtig. Die Portionen sind ausreichend und ds Bier lecker. Weiter so! Nur die Lage direkt an der Strasse schmälert ein wenig das Erlebnis - zumindest in den Stoß- und Feierabendzeiten. Kann man aber ertragen…

Wir waren mit 9 Personen in der urigen Kneipe und wollten einen netten Abend bei leckerem Essen und Bier verbringen. Fast alle Teilnehmer waren leider mit dem Essen unzufrieden: Bratkartoffeln lecker aber nicht heiß; Fleisch trocken; Minihaxe war wohl ein Rippchen; Käsespatzen lauwarm, ungewürzt und fast ohne Käse; Schade. Wir hatten uns so auf den Abend gefreut.

On a lovely warm day sat outside to people watch and have lunch. Staff were very pleasant and nice and helpful with our limited German. Big portions served and was very nice food. I had the pork steak. Cooked just right. Beer was good. Dessert good as well.

Ein sehr freundlicher Service in uriger Atmosphäre. Ein Lächeln, geduldige Bestellannahme trotz vollem Restaurant, das war richtig gut. Wir haben uns willkommen gefühlt. Dazu eine tolle Spargelcremesuppe und Spargelgerichte, die wirklich richtig gut waren. Alles in allem eine Wiederholung wert.

We were there for lunch, had reserved according to Internet reviews and there you see again that there is no reliance on it at all. When we entered only one other table was occupied, which gave us already evil foreboding, because the restaurants we passed were full of people. We ordered kale with smoked pork and fried potatoes. The pork was underdone, the potatoes were dried and old, and the kale... well the kale tasted just awful and not like kale at all. I have no idea what it tasted like. Maybe a bit like boiled hay with turmeric??? It was not edible. The service lady was very nice, came to our table, said she had tasted it in the kitchen and agreed with us. We only had to pay for the drinks. Very friendly, but this was only able to correct this disaster to a limited extent. I can not understand the good reviews here. I assume that they do not cook themselves but only put frozen goods in the microwave.

Es war ein schöner Donnerstagabend. Bedienung sehr freundlich… und gut gelaunt! Das Essen war echt lecker. Auch die Bratkartoffeln waren frisch zubereitet 😉. Ein einziger Wermutstropfen.. es war recht kalt. Andere Gäste haben sich auch eine Jacke übergezogen. Nachher wurde es war…wahrscheinlich die Heizung zu spät eingeschaltet. Preise sind fair.

Heerlijk gegeten met een flinke unit van een schnitzel en erg smakelijk donker bier. Het kan even duren voor het eten op tafel staat, want de personeelstekorten zijn hier op het moment groot, maar het personeel is uiterst vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Toffe zaak!

Okay we know where we are, but the waitresses were so brusque to border on rudeness, and that is not Bavarian at all. Food is pleasant convenience food, nice selection but quite prefab, nothing really homemade. The lunch special is well-priced, otherwise expensive. Pleasant and convenient location with nice Schanigarten and gorgeous interior just at the edge of the pedestrian zone and smack across the public parking garage.

Wir waren am WE mit 8 Personen dort essen und konnten - nach vorheriger Reservierung - uns vor Ort entscheiden draußen zu essen. Das Essen hat zwar länger gedauert, aber das freundliche Personal hatte uns darauf hingewiesen und zwischendurch immer wieder Bescheid gegeben. Das war für uns dann ok. Alle Essen sowie sämtliche Getränke haben sehr gut geschmeckt. Die Portionen waren wirklich gut und es ist keiner von uns hungrig aufgestanden. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

We had an overnight stay in the town and we were looking for somewhere to eat. The restaurant looked attractive so we decided to give it a go. Service was very good and the waitress was clearly proud of the service & food offered. The beer was top quality and the food was excellent too. The interior was vert attractive...its a shame we were only in town for one night.

We had lunch with family. Ordered chicken schnitzel and sausage. we all liked the taste. The waiter and waitress were are polite and nice. Highly recommended!

The restaurant is in a nice old building with tables divided by small walls making it cosy and nice. The menu is very Bavarian with dishes for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The waiters were friendly and he prices quite moderate. I recommend this restaurant for a true German experience.

What a surprise, entered sporadically caused by a rain shower . Knew this restaurant just from the beer garden outside. Don't know if this is typical Bavarian food, because I am not from there . But it was delicious. Short menu but filled with typical food. Prices are average or less. Attentive staff , friendly and fast . Atmosphere inside is absolutely great and stylish . Highly recommended

We were told by the staff at the hotel we were staying (Hotel am Nikolaiort) who also runs this restaurant that it was good so we decided to try some German food. We had a sharing platter for starters and then pork-knuckle for my partner and a Munchen pork for me. Both were devine. Be advise that the portions are BIG but it is all very tasty and goes down very well with the big glasses of beer!!! the kids had mash sausages and schnitzels also very nice. The price is also very good value, we were surprised when the bill came in as to how little we had to pay for all of the food. A nice surprise!!! Staff were friendly and helpful and it is very close to the hotel.

Happy to have eaten here with my Brother during our visit to Osnabruck. Atmospheric interior seeking to mirror other establishments visited previously in Bavaria. Convenient, central location. Friendly, helpful and informative staff, especially the younger members, eg Frankie. Enjoyed a shared starter and two huge plates of pork knuckle with all the trimmings, a couple of drinks each, and the bill was just a shade over 40 Euros which we thought good value. Stuffed full in a pleasant, convivial environment

Just decided to go out with our 3 kids. If you doubt whether your kids like it or not just take your bike and go here. Nice place in the city centre. OK, this time we took the car to avoid frozen legs but anyhow, just go and your family will have a nice delicious evening for a very good price/quality. As called a "secret tip"

Our son had made a first reservation for 4 persons and called later if it was okay if we would come wth 5. He was told that it would be no problem. When we arrived the waitress gruffly told us that she had only a notition for 4 and that she didn't know if she had room... After that we were given a table for 4.Later on, when the food arrived, the 5th person was still missing cutleryand and a napkin, and also the salad on one of the guests. The cutlery came quickly, but the salad only arrived when almaost all of us had already finished our main course. The food was fine though and alslo the prices are good.

Had a wonderful meal here at a very reasonable price - two main courses with bottle of wine, coffees and schnapps for 40€. Excellent quality food, beautifully tender Schweinshaxe with Sauerkraut for me Schweinebraten for my partner. Furthermore, brilliant service from a lovely waitress. Will be back. Only negative - they had run out of asparagus! I had been so looking forward to it! 😊
