Achim's Beck'shaus in Bremen

Now I can FINALLY share my opinion about this lovely place, as I was disappointed two years ago. THANK YOU Seyed, for making Achim's Beckshaus the place I remember from before! The evening with you was AMAZING!!! The ambiance and our seats were perfect. The service was incredibly reliable, friendly, and helpful. All our requests were met, the reservation process was exemplary, and the communication beforehand was flawless. The food was perfect and DELICIOUS! WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK if you keep it up. THANK YOU!

Google should really delete old reviews for newly opened restaurants. I strongly advise only paying attention to reviews posted after the opening. We felt completely uncomfortable. There was a strange guy sitting around in the restaurant the whole time. If that was the owner, he should seriously reconsider his attire. Checking the legal notice (impressum) is always a good idea. The food didn't fare well in my previous review, and since nothing has changed in the kitchen except that they now serve tarte flambée instead of burgers... The only positive was the friendly service. Not recommended.

Unfortunately, the quality has declined significantly since the renovation; the service was inattentive and the food wasn't well prepared... there seems to have been a change of ownership.

At that price, I think you can expect a fresh schnitzel instead of a small frozen one, especially when you're then charged an extra €3.90 for fried potatoes instead of fries! Furthermore, a restroom attendant in such an expensive restaurant should be paid well enough or receive a share of the general tips instead of having to ask for a tip separately outside the restroom.

An experience that could have easily been avoided. The service was indeed very friendly, unfortunately the only bright spot of the evening. Because friendliness alone can't save a kitchen that seems to specialize in self-sabotage. The duck was way past its prime and so over-peppered that you wondered if the pepper shaker had exploded. The dumplings tasted like a lovingly reheated convenience food. The Knipp, however, was truly impressive: you'd never know it was possible to ruin this dish so completely. Culinary-wise, it's not usually a challenge, but here it was so burnt that only crumbs adorned the plate. The burnt fried potatoes rounded off this masterpiece perfectly. The Spezi (a popular German soft drink) was, as expected, completely unremarkable – kudos to mass-produced drinks. Conclusion: Please close down again. This place has absolutely no future.

Four people paid €120.00, but we thought we'd have to pay around €105.00. To my surprise, we were charged €15.00 for drinks. We weren't asked for anything. There was no receipt showing the total, only a debit card receipt with €14.91 in drinks. I could have left a tip myself. This is incredibly antisocial. Ridiculous. Food and drinks are expensive enough as it is.

The bartender mixed different beers to restore the foam head on old beers. I received the wrong order. I waited way too long before being helped. In short, I'd go the next door.

We were at Becks Haus yesterday, and what can I say... for the prices they charge, you'd expect a fresh schnitzel, not frozen food! I wanted fried potatoes instead of fries, but they told me that changing the side dish would cost an extra €3.90... at that price, that's unacceptable! On the plus side: Very friendly service! Conclusion: It's okay to stop there for a drink, but I'd advise against eating there.

Visually, it's a nice pub. Cozy...! The food portions are far too small for the rather high price. A mini schnitzel with 15 fries for 19 euros is simply unacceptable! My colleague had fries with a mushroom sauce (far too thin) for over 9 euros. I also find the beer very expensive. On the day we were there, almost no order was correct. It's a shame, but this won't work in the long run.

We've been there a few times and it's always great! Whenever we're in Bremen, we make sure to go to Achim's mandatory program!

It's a very sweet place, the staff is very polite, and the atmosphere is pleasant. We ordered the schnitzel, but since it was on the kids' menu, there were no extras. We were informed of this when ordering. The other dish was standard. I prefer thinner schnitzels, and the potatoes were a bit oily and soft. I prefer them crispy. I deducted one point for this, otherwise, it was a very filling and delicious dish. Those interested in trying local places might want to try it.

Friendly, honest, with room for improvement. The food was okay, and the beer was very well poured. The fill line on the cola was visible – after pointing it out, we immediately received a freshly filled glass, even overfilled. The new owners are friendly, attentive, and a real asset. Mistakes happen – what matters is how you deal with them. After years, we finally felt comfortable again at Achim’s Beckshaus. Keep it up! Unfortunately, the staff seemed completely overwhelmed. We had to ask about our orders several times, and even when we wanted more drinks, we had to ask repeatedly and ended up ordering at the bar ourselves.

We've been to Becks three times since it reopened. I've had the schnitzel "a la Meyer" three times. The first time, everything was great for €16.30. The second time, the salad came without dressing and the hollandaise sauce was missing, costing €17.90. The third time, the sauce was supposed to be brought out, but of course it never arrived, costing €19.90. The service was poor. No one cleared our plates or asked if we wanted to order anything else. So we had to go to the server ourselves and pay. In conclusion, after six weeks, it started strong but is now going downhill from where its predecessors left off. A shame.

Our visit to Beckshaus was unfortunately very disappointing. While the ambiance was pleasant, the food and service were quite the opposite. The farmer's breakfast was burnt, and when we pointed this out, the response was, "It happens." When we mentioned the diminished flavor, we were simply shrugged. The Labskaus (a traditional North German dish) was runny and looked very unappetizing. When we paid, we were asked if everything was alright. Our reply, "It was okay," was completely ignored. That was our first and last visit there.

Money laundering!! All sorts of credit cards are displayed at the door, but unfortunately, they only accept the old debit card. Apparently, this was a problem that happened just today. They wanted payment via PayPal, without an invoice, of course. This place urgently needs to be reported to the tax authorities! Furthermore, they're Iranians pretending to serve German food.

⭐☆☆☆☆ (only because 0 stars is not an option) We visited this place to watch a football game with some friends. At first, everything seemed fine, the atmosphere looked decent, and the sign outside clearly stated that they accepted cards. We sat down, ordered food, and waited. Unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing. Most of the dishes tasted as if they had been frozen for a long time and then simply reheated in an air fryer. The flavors were bland, nothing felt fresh, and even the fries lacked any real taste. Considering the quality, the prices were absurdly high, something that would normally cost around 10 euros elsewhere was about 25 here. When it came time to pay, things got even worse. My card was declined, which was strange, but what was even more suspicious was that all of my friends’ cards were declined as well. The issue was clearly not financial, it was something else entirely. The waiter told us we could go to an ATM to withdraw cash instead, which felt very unprofessional, especially after seeing the “cards accepted” sign outside. To make things even more uncomfortable, he started asking us where we were from, which felt unnecessary and intrusive. In the end, we had to pay in cash because there was no other option, but the entire experience felt suspicious and unpleasant. Long story short, this place is not worth your time or your money. If you decide to come here, bring cash, keep your expectations low, and be prepared for disappointment. Definitely would not recommend.

Today I ate a delicious rump steak, cooked to perfection. With a fresh salad and potato wedges. I'd definitely go back. No long wait.

The right place for the history of Bremen and Becks beer

The food and service were okay, but card payments weren't accepted. The information sign was so "clear" that you only get the information at the end...

No card payments! I don't understand that these days. The food was good, though.

After reopening, we went there for lunch today. We had three kinds of steak with fries in hunter's sauce. The fries were quite crispy, the beef was cooked well, and the portions were manageable. I enjoyed the hunter's sauce. The waitress, an older gentleman wearing a cap, was very friendly and competent. The coffee afterward was top-notch and included in the price of the lunch dish (13.90). Overall, I'd say it wasn't outstanding, but it was okay.

Lunch: Three different steaks with fries. Everything was swimming in a kind of hunter's sauce with mushrooms. The beef steak was tough, the turkey and pork were okay. The fries were soggy with lots of black spots. On one side of the street sign it said card payments weren't accepted today. Unfortunately, on the other, it wasn't. So I didn't see it and had to go to the ATM to pay and pay expensive third-party fees. The server was rude and uncooperative. Never again!

We were at Beckshaus for the soft opening on Sunday. I had zander fillet with boiled potatoes and herb sauce. The potatoes were pre-made potatoes, which come in plastic bags, so they were hard on the outside and mushy on the inside. What they called herb sauce was something burnt on the fish. The side salad was mushy and probably from the day before, completely inedible, and therefore sent back. My friend had Knipp (a kind of fried potato) with fried potatoes and a side salad. The same thing happened here: pre-made potatoes inedible, salad mushy, and Knipp (a kind of fried potato) not crispy enough. We pointed out to the waiter that the place wouldn't be doing well this way. In any case, we will never go back here.

Timeless classic. This bar has existed for over 40 years and is one one the best places to have a fresh Beck’s Beer in Bremen.

The food is not good value for money. Too expensive for the quantity. The mixed grill, for example, is much too expensive for the quantity. The food is generally average in quality. The salad is carelessly prepared and of poor quality. The cocktail was served carelessly, without decorations or a straw. Overall, the price is poor.

We always enjoy coming here after a stroll through town. They serve good, home-style cooking and other delicious dishes. Also, a delicious Beck's beer, freshly poured. They also offer nice happy hour specials until 6 p.m.

Excellent food, hot and well-cooked, but the much-advertised dinner offer turned out to have expired the day before we were there, even though they had signs on the street. Hence only 2 stars for service.

Stopped in on the Wednesday before Father's Day. The fish and pasta dishes are highly recommended. Very friendly service. Is it always this quiet at lunchtime? We were able to choose a table.

Very hospitable restaurant/pub. The food is good and delicious here. The selection of dishes and cocktails is very extensive. The service is always very attentive and extremely polite. The restrooms could use a complete overhaul. They're okay, but not in keeping with the rest of the ambiance. Perhaps there are structural issues here that prevent the owner from doing this.

As I was leaving the parking garage, I noticed this restaurant: Achim's Beck'shaus. It promised a cozy atmosphere, and my appetite and thirst for beer were immediately piqued. First, I had to put away my suitcases and get my bearings. Where will we eat tonight? The first thing that came to mind was Achim's Beck'shaus. We were greeted warmly and had almost unlimited table selection inside. Happy hour beer and cocktails were available until 7:00 p.m. We were immediately taken by the Tuesday dinner special, and our orders were taken quickly, and the first freshly tapped Beck's was on the table. The dishes were delicious, and the meat was cooked to perfection. Achim may be a legend, but hospitality is very important here, and that's becoming rare. We definitely recommend Achim's Beck'shaus and will certainly be back on our next visit to Bremen. Many thanks to the team 👍

Wanted some schnitzel and googled the best places to get one in Bremen. I so happened to be right next door and as fate would have it, I just had the most amazing meal I’ve had in MONTHS. Although the meal I wanted was on the menu as pork, they were able to make it chicken for me. I had the roasted potatoes and bacon green beens on the side and it’s all delicious! I was disappointed I missed out on the happy hour schnitzel special earlier, but that only came with fries. This meal though..incredible. Lots to do and eat in the area and I couldn’t have picked a better place for dinner!

The prices are cheap to reasonable; there are daily specials, beer specials, schnitzel day, etc. Service very attentive and friendly. Located in the heart of the city, nice beer garden atmosphere. My chicken wings were thin, the supposed baguette was plain dry white bread, and the salad was just a bit of iceberg lettuce, cucumber, and corn. Okay for the low price, but more of a substitute for mediocre food.

We were there on Friday (May 9th) and ordered dishes from the asparagus menu. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. The asparagus was still very firm, the hollandaise was cold and looked like it had been squeezed straight from the package. The schnitzel was the only thing that was very tasty. The worst thing was the potatoes. Some of them tasted old, as if they had been warmed up quickly in the microwave or from the day before. The part of the potatoes that weren't old were still raw inside. When we told the waiter this, he wanted to tell the boss. Neither the waiter nor the manager came to us again. Apparently no clarification was wanted. For us it will never be called Achim’s Beckshaus again.

A completely successful visit! The food was excellent and the lunch menu was unbeatable value for money. Particularly noteworthy is the extremely friendly and courteous service - a rarity that made the stay particularly pleasant. The only small downside: the coffee machine was unfortunately broken. Nevertheless, a great experience that we would like to repeat!

We had lunch at this restaurant during our weekend in Bremen. Despite having ordered a pork knuckle with red cabbage and gravy, due to a communication issue - I am not a German speaker - I was brought the dish which I am posting below in the picture section (to be precise, I specify the waitress who assisted us asked about the pork knuckle to be sure, then this mistake happened). When the dish came, I asked whether there was a misunderstanding and my dish was correct: at beginning I was told so, then afterwards the waitress apologised for the issue, which I appreciated. At this stage, also given that we were pretty much in a hurry because we had a guided tour to visit the Townhall, all was okay (the food’s quality however is barely sufficient). What really stood out was that after having mismanaged our orders, the waitress asked us to add a service charge to the bill (which I did being caught by surprise): I found it very inappropriate, given that I didn’t receive a good service and the mistake was on the staff side. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

Five stars for great service! I was in this restaurant recently and absolutely loved it! The food was delicious, but what really made the evening special was the great service. A huge thank you to Zoe and Hanna - both were incredibly friendly, attentive and with their warm nature they made us feel completely comfortable. You can just tell that they do their job with passion. Unfortunately, such a service is not a given - but it is definitely a highlight here. I'll definitely come back.

The restaurant itself is great. In the middle of the city and yet a little hidden. Food is supposed to be good. BUT 6.50 euros for a beer is absolutely wrong. The other drink prices are also comparatively high. I know about the situation, personnel costs, everything is getting more expensive, blah blah. Maybe it doesn't matter to occasional tourists and the higher earners from the Hanseatic city, but at some point the limit is exceeded. Please don't take this as a devaluation, everyone should decide for themselves how they waste their hard-earned money.

The food was a big let down, especially with the prices. While the waiters were nice, the food took nearly an hour to come and even though its fairly pricey, the dishes are way too small and the taste was sub par. My wifes Rump steak was tough and tasteless.

We were there yesterday and can absolutely recommend it. We had two delicious cocktails at happy hour: I had a strawberry mojito and my mother had a swimming pool. For starters, we had bruschetta. They were plentiful and truly delicious. For main course, I had the chicken mountaineer schnitzel. It was absolutely delicious and I definitely recommend it. It's also great that the hollandaise sauce is served separately and not over the schnitzel! My mother had the beef roulades. They had a lot of ground beef but were still delicious. The service was very friendly, attentive, and quick :)

So it gets very loud... you shouldn't meet up for a chat. Unfortunately, the fries were seasoned unevenly (some too much, some not at all), the schnitzel was bland and flat... the service was nice.

**PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT REVIEW** I think this review is really too late but I felt this is needed so everyone who can read this knows how this restaurant treats their customers or tourists visiting this place. I visited Bremen last quarter of last year. I saw this restaurant on the recommended food places to try in Bremen. So I went and ordered the German Schnitzel. Whilst I was chewing my food, I bit on something really really hard, thought that was part of the food but when I did spit it out from my mouth, I noticed my food had a very tiny stone in it! Which restaurant would serve a customer with a stone on their food? Because that stone was really solid rock, it chipped my front tooth away. I reported it to the server and to the manager and they advised me to go to a private dentist and promised me they would reimburse the money I had to pay there (since I am based in London UK and doesn't have EU health insurance). A day after that incident, I went there again to see the owner/manager Ghofrani, she promised to pay me back or bank transfer me the amount I paid for the private dentist, but few months after and lots of conversation with her on whatsapp happened - and up to this date, they never paid the amount of money and never compensated me for the inconvenience I had to go through. I kept following up and they kept ignoring my plea to repay me. It was a very traumatic experience for me! I just went there to eat, and enjoy my time, but accident happens (which I know for sure) but they are not accountable enough to help you. If I only spoke German language or known the process how to sue this restaurant, I would have done so as they must be held liable and accountable to all their customers. To all the customers/ tourists who are planning to go here, please BE WARNED as your FOOD may have rock stones too!!!! **ADDED REPLY TO THE OWNER - No, there was no chance you wanted to refund the money I paid for my private dentist. I have been talking to Ghofrani (apparently the owner/manager) and she kept ignoring my follow ups on whatsapp. I even emailed your restaurant multiple times and you just forwarded me to your German insurance but did not sort the issue out at the end. So a BIG NO, you never really wanted to pay the money and the inconvenience you have caused me. Please stop lying to people who can read this review. **

I ate Bergsteiger Schnitzel yesterday and it tasted really good. Big praise!!

Four of us were there on a Saturday evening. Shortly after 8 p.m. we ordered drinks and food. The drinks have arrived. There was no communication with us at all afterwards and no one paid attention to whether we wanted more drinks or anything else. Around 9:30 p.m., after all the other tables had gotten their food, we tried to ask what was with our food. We were ignored until the table next to us wanted to pay. Then we were told that the food would come "in 2 minutes". When the food came, the sauce from one dish was accidentally spilled onto another dish and the waiter apologized. Unfortunately, the bad thing was that the dish had to be remade again and we were told that it would come "in 2 minutes" - 20 minutes later it wasn't there yet. So one of us sat without a court, which was very annoying. The lack of food was unnecessarily stressful for an autistic person. The waiter offered to take the drinks off the bill because he saw how upset we were - in the end two of us still had to pay for the drinks, which we had to clarify with him. Shortly before 10 p.m., when three of us had already finished eating, the fourth dish was served. We will not be returning in the future.

I'm really disappointed with the service and unfortunately I can't recommend it

Super disappointing, more cafeteria than tavern. Admittedly, it was a Saturday but the dining room was initially moderately busy late in the afternoon. Without prior arrangement, our table was reserved for someone else 45 minutes later (when we were already sitting at the table), so not everyone had the opportunity to order food. Especially since there were at least 5 different drink menus and not all of them made it to the menu. Furthermore, there were incorrect drinks, only some cutlery and an incorrect bill to the detriment of the guest. Inn!!! Economic thinking is very important here. Understandable, but the core remains by the wayside. In other words, you felt more like the cow with husbandry level 5 that needs to be milked. Addendum: The feedback was that there is always a time slot of approx. 2 hours for reserved guests. Unfortunately we were just “walk-in customers”.

Great evening here. Very tasty burger and the pasta with grilled salmon was delicious! The service was 1a with stars, it couldn't be friendlier. The atmosphere is very cozy, we will definitely come back. The only thing that was a bit annoying was the very loud telephone sound...we were probably sitting too close. Still no problem, we had a great time!

Totally dry schnitzel with also limp fried potatoes. Probably just in the microwave warmed up...brrrrr With the schnitzel there was Bernaise...cold... The waitress just shrugged off our complaint and said she would pass it on... Conclusion from us...not again
